    Facebook questions about CF

Interesting how most of the Facebook copies of this statement (all appear to be on or after 11 Aug) have chopped this part out about 20 years service - was it originally a US or Canadian comment?  Anyone track down the original post or any posts earlier than 11 Aug?

The Threat of Islamo-Fascism Combined with Unchecked PC Behaviour

Good post! I might of missed it but I dont think he mentioned anything about being afraid to say anything cause you can get your ass sued off for saying anything even remotely possibly anti-islam - one of the benefits of Living in Canada, we cut our own throats with our advanced sense of...

What rights and freedoms would a person be giving up if he/she joins the forces?

Sorry MM, I would also disagree would you.  While they arent much in the way of 'losses', there are a significant number of restrictions on freedoms and rights when you sign on the dotted line.  However, that ironclad service contract and military legal system also works to your benefit, if you...

    Concealed carry on Post/Base

Out of curiosity, is the level of crime increasing on bases and posts?  Im wondering what the justification would be for increased carrying of firearms, other than personal preference...

    Much appreciated, multi-topic advice...

I think CDN Aviator also makes a point, judging by the response, that you may have some sensitivity to sarcasm.  Better get that spot calloused up...

    Intelligence Officer / Operator

Take it with a grain of salt.  Of all the persons who pass the tests for getting into the Int trade (officer and NCO) only a very small percentage are a template for a Tom Clancy character like you described above...

Government to go to common IT systems across all departments

I cant think of a single example where a new agency in Canada reduced the layers...or simplified communication, or improved coordination.

Is anyone REALLY surprised CIA keeps an eye on Cdn economy?

I used the term generally, as we were refering to the activities of a 'spy' organization.  Im sure most anyone on this forum knows that information and intelligence is collected or created in a hundred different ways...

preparing and chances for reserve at age 39?

Its not all negative.  There's always room for intelligence, intuition, initiative, leadership, creativity, etc.

preparing and chances for reserve at age 39?

I dont see anything wrong with his trying to apply.  There have been several examples over the last ten years of persons over 35 applying for and being accepted to combat arms trades.  The only way he'll find out if he can do it and if he can handle the physical demands is if he applies. For...

Is anyone REALLY surprised CIA keeps an eye on Cdn economy?

As to what our agencies do, that tends to fall into the 'we can neither confirm nor deny' category... As to what countries in general do, all countries tend to spy on their neighbours and allies, not just their enemies and threats.  Its just bad form to get caught doing it or talking about it.

Government to go to common IT systems across all departments

'New agencies' in governments almost never lead to decreased costs or increased efficiency...

    'NATO-Russia Rapprochement'

...or it took them until 2001 to start releasing what they regard as classified information.  Not quite the same thing.

When did batmen fall out of use?

I found that a significant number of officers from a wide range of European countries were still very 'class-conscience', even up to about 2002.  Its even more common if you are dealing with members from Middle East and Central Asian countries.  If not along aristocratic lines, then certainly...

Joining the reg force with only Grade 10?

Unless I missed it, most of these posts address the need for higher education, but not why current and future soldiers need that education.  It is in part why we have such high admission standards these days. Unlike 30 odd years ago, soldiers dont just keep fit, maintain and drive vehicles...
