Becoming a Pilot in the CF.

Just from my speakings with a hornet driver who is currently on the FWIC... the average hop for a hornet driver is roughly 0.8 to 1.0.. but as he told me they are 'quality hours'! Though there is also a downside to that, as the pilot who was doing OJT at CFRC London told me, you are pretty much...

    So far so good

Negative, I am through CFRC London. Hopefully the tests go swimmingly, opto next tues and going to get blood taken that day as well  :-\  ... But just had Tiger 423 (CH-146) fly over my house inbound CYXU, so that definatly got me excited and motivated again!

New Name for the Grob G120A

Great post! I think the Texan II and Harvard II are perfect names for those training aircraft paying homage to arguably the greatest and most used trainers of all time.... As for the grob? I think the Kestrel is a great fit, catchy and apt..

    Superhornets for the CF?

ahhh the first of the combat SIMs... if we're counting hours then I should be able to apply for a USANG unit with my 200 odd combat hours in Korea in the F-16!!

    Superhornets for the CF?

Not to mention that the Superbug pricetag isn't going to sit idle at 60mill once the JSF is out and 20 years down the road... i think the most practicable scenario is one in which Canada purchases superbugs to replace the current CF-18As and Bs.... realistically Canada won't deploy fast air...

    Interesting sidenote on the C-17

Don't know if anybody caught the question period today, but some interesting points came up regarding the acquisition of C-17s... First off the balance of the maintenance to be contracted out to Boeing-Lockheed, secondly the C-17s would spend a large amount of time on US soil (mike duffy summ'd...

    Pilot - 'Floaters'

Just out of curiosity, does the existence of 'floaters' in one's eyes count against them in the eye exam for pilot? for those who aren't familiar with floaters: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floaters

    pilot education

I was conversing with a CF-18 pilot, and he told me that he flies beside some people who have engineering degrees and others who have arts degrees, what CF flying comes down to is ability to learn in a dynamic environment and, as he says it, your 'hands and feet'...

    Flight F-14 by Rick Reilly

correct... in canada the limit for airshows is around M.90 while in the US they can take it closer to M.98, .99 (thats why you get the better 'blossoms' down there)... last year the USN -18F demo team almost got in a whack of trouble because a woman near the airport's windows were shattered...

http://www.patricksaviation.com/aviation_videos/514/German_F-4_Phantom   if you have some extra bandwidth and are looking for some pretty cool flying... love the guys scrambling off the dirt mound who almost get decap'd.... the >90 bank angle at 50ft must take a pretty deep skill set in the...

Close Air Support in the CF: Bring back something like the CF-5 or introduce something with props?

Canada might have to look to europe in the future as US aircraft such as the JSF and Raptor seem to be out of a realistic price range, problem with the Gripen is that it is a single engine aircraft..
