North Korea show's Sony who's boss

It remains to be seen if they follow through with their threats to attack theatres that premiere the film.... Either theatres will be empty where it premieres out of fear, or, the extreme opposite and people will jam the theatres to thumb their noses to the N. Koreans. Watch and shoot I guess...

Ordered "to get a phone" / Contact Information [Merged]

I know the RCD has it there in their Routine Orders the hours of the working day in Garrison and yes, 7:30 P.T is the start of the work day, followed by Showers/Coffee Break at 8:30-9:30, Stables from 9:30-11:30, Lunch 11:30-12:30, Stables/Lectures/Classes 12:30-4:00. I would imagine all Units...

Ordered "to get a phone" / Contact Information [Merged]

From the QR&O's; 1.12 - REGULATIONS AND ORDERS TO BE AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS A commanding officer shall cause regulations and orders issued in implementation of the National Defence Act to be readily available to all members whom they concern. So there it is in black and white.... Max is...

Ordered "to get a phone" / Contact Information [Merged]

I have to disagree.  An Infantry Company on IRU should not have to provide a duty phone or pager.  The CAF simply does not have the funds to splurge on supplying Units with cell phones or pagers.  As you also mentioned, anyone without a cell or landline most likely has some serious financial...

Ordered "to get a phone" / Contact Information [Merged]

That's a negative.  Just as boot polish, brasso, haircut fee's and razor blades are not tax deductible.  Despite the fact that you are expected to show up for work with a regulation haircut, (which generally requires more monthly visits to a barber than your average civvie incurs) clean shaven...

French World War One bedroom of soldier who never returned

Another perspective; when we look at photos of our ancestors (particularly any pre-WWII) we probably all feel somewhat the same as you mentioned.  There's a detachment there because we have no context to include them in our life, and therefore little room in our memory for a virtually unknown...

Drug use/drug testing in the CF (merged)

I'm one of the people who mentioned it being swept under the rug, but I also want to clarify by no means do I believe it to be epidemic. I mentioned I know of two isolated incidents with two different Units I served with, but over the course of my career I saw plenty of individuals charged with...

Drug use/drug testing in the CF (merged)

It should be mentioned however, that there are medications that many serving military members could be using as per their MO's orders that can test positive for THC.  Pantoloc, Ketaprofen, Naproxin and Promethazine are a few that I can think of that will test positive for THC in a drug...

Drug use/drug testing in the CF (merged)

I never said anything about the legality of individually testing for drugs.  I am stating that I have seen individuals test positive for drugs on two separate occasions, and then have absolutely no consequence come to them when it was brought to light some NCO's and Officers could be implicated.

Drug use/drug testing in the CF (merged)

I agree.  I also believe, from personal experience, that lids get slammed shut on some cases when names start getting called out.  An individual tests positive for a controlled substance, then starts singing like a canary about others higher up the C-o-C.  Now a Unit has the possibility of the...

    When in Doubt: Mustaches

That may have something to do with the fact that Command No. 1,695 of The King's Regulation's reads: The hair of the head will be kept short. The chin and the under lip will be shaved, but not the upper lip. Whiskers if worn will be of moderate length. This was a policy very much adhered to in...

Why is it Canadians do so well in battle?

Not so  sure I agree with this assessment. To call The Battle of the Atlantic the ONLY decisive battle of the WWII is, in my opinion anyway, false.  There's a very strong argument that says 4 others fall into the "decisive" category. The Battle of France, The Battle of Britain, Stalingrad &...

    Lepard C2 MEXAS in styrene

It's a beautiful model.  I bought it on eBay for $40.00. Love the tracks on it. Individual styrene track assembly vice the usual rubber molded track. All parts fit together smoothly with no need for sanding and filling like a few models I've gotten in the past. Comes with some photo etched parts...

    RCD Model Decals

Wasn't sure exactly where I should put this query, but Mil History seemed appropriate.  I build scale models as a hobby and am nearing completion of a Staghound Mk. I vehicle.  The model came with markings for numerous British Regiments, and the XII Manitoba Dragoons. I have searched every model...

Why is it Canadians do so well in battle?

I don't want to infringe on any possible copyrights, so I'll direct you to David Lloyd George's personal war diary. Page 1,367.  It's open to interpretation, but how many other Dominion Generals could he be referring to? Possibly Monash for sure.  Open to debate I guess.

Why is it Canadians do so well in battle?

As far as WWI goes, as was mentioned earlier, LGen Sir Julien Byng was an exceptional leader of the Canadian Corps.  When he handed over the reins of I Cdn Corps to LGen Sir Arthur Currie, Currie inherited a professional cohesive force.  As a Canadian himself, Currie knew he didn't have the...
