For those curious, here is what the current Basic Assault Pioneer Course entails:
PO 201 - support rigging tasks
PO 202 - construct vehicle obstacles
PO 203 - construct concrete obstacles
PO 204 - construct field fortifications
PO 205 - use gas powered tools to support operations
PO 206 -...
Happy New Year all!
Does anyone have details on the PWT3 for the shotgun? I have the opportunity to do one in the coming months and was curious what it actually entailed. Thanks!
I can believe it. I was asked by someone who released about 10 years ago how the integration with women is going. And I heard grumblings of angry disbelief at the annual dinner from someone who served in the 70s and 80s when he saw an air force officer wearing a kilt in our regimental tartan.
Earned a Sacrifice Medal and GCS, but retired in 1999. Also managed to get a CD with only 11 years of service...sure, sure.

Your basic training courses will be fast paced with little down-time. Weekend exercises can be quite fast paced. Longer exercises, such as brigade exs are a mixed bag. In one day we advanced to contact over 20 or so kilometers (on foot); the next day we lounged in a field at the side of the road...
I'm assuming the CDS. Again, this is just rumour but I know of at least one person who is currently in Gagetown and has been told to clean their beard up. Mind you, it was quite massive...so it may just have been intended as motivation to make sure people don't look like they're fighting in the...
I heard a rumour that beards will now be policed and the 2cm bulk will be enforced, even amongst the Pioneers in Gagetown and that the threat is to rescind BEARDFORGEN if people can't follow the rules. I've heard this from two sources, one of whom is back East. Anyone have any insight into this?
I don't have a special needs child, but my wife was quite ill for the last 6 or so weeks of her pregnancy and my Coc was quite understanding if I had to leave early or skip some training days. Thankfully the end of her pregnancy was during Christmas standdown.
Knots aren't taught at all on the current PRES BMQ, unless you have an instructor that knows them and some spare time. I don't recall even learning any knots until we were taught how to do a Swiss seat. They are covered off on Basic Pioneer (from what I've been told).
There are two separate streams:
NCM which goes from Private to Chief Warrant Officer
Officer which goes from Officer Cadet to General
Most will never reach the top ranks - it's just a matter of skill, career progression and dedication. Most reserve officers won't make it past LCol as you can...
Drivers courses are likely run once or twice a year - mine was run by 39 Svc Coy. Once you have your DDC, you can learn LSVW and Milcot. To learn something like the MSVS, you'd need an airbrakes qualification and that would likely be done out of Esquimalt. You can also take any of the driver...
I did my DDC the day my SQ (now BMQ-L) started. I know of others that have had BMQ only that have gone on drivers' courses (and BMQ only troops are very employable as drivers). It is ultimately up to your unit.
