New Military Wife On Her Way In...

Congradulations on little one #3 and for deciding to join up.  A few suggestions if I may: 1.  Wait until after the birth of your child before applying. this will give you time to gather all the information, and will give you time to heal and get back into peak physical shape.  2.  You should...

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

SMMT I agree you'd look like an idiot.  I gotta stop posting before my morning coffee.  my bad, Nuff said bdcasey916: I agree with you, I could see some poor smuck with the scissors in his cargo pocket kneeling/bending whatever and jabbin themselves in the leg, and leaving a nice bruise.  For...

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

;D Not exactly what I meant when I posted.  But after reading it this morning I can see why you probably think I'm a moronic gear hog.  What I meant was that there was nobody in BC to tell us "No, do not wear that, it isn't issued".  As opposed to on base at a field unit (Where I'm sure there...

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

Our on car uniforms are black with reflective tape.  Similar to what most paramedics wear here in Ontario.  They are very professional looking, and received great reviews from our preceptors and other paramedics in BC.  We were the first class of JI Students to wear them.  Unfortunately you are...

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

SQ is something us Med Techs should have, it's just not on the Must have list.  ( Although it should be).  I don't have mine and I know I missed out big time on some good training and weapons practice. But "ces la vie" as we say.

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

k_mac Be prepared to do a lot of Anatomy and Physiology, and Pharmacology, and Patho during your clinical, unfortunately it won't be enough to prepare you for the Emergent phase in BC.  You will need to do some extra studying (on top of everything else). Our staff were awesome and gave us...

    CF H Svc Centre

Just spent the summer at ASU Chilliwack, and there is NO Med Support there anymore.  You have to use on of the civi clinics, or go the CFB Esquimalt if it's serious enought. Northern Ontario and the Sault, there are NO Reg force units except I think a few in CFB NorthBay.  Therefore if you get...

All things LASIK surgery (aircrew/other -- merged)

Gotta love it when only half the info is being circulated.  It is the same standard for pilot applicants.  Gotta read the whole CANFORGEN carefully, it's in there. Consider the information verified, for the most part ( i'm at home and don't the the Regulations with me).  But as I said above...

    After Action Review

kj_gully, agreed all of us in the trade should take the time and learn from the experiences and lessons being learned.  SMMT, thanks for answer, makes sense when I think about it that way.  Too bad it isn't taught from the start, although I understand we have to crawl before we run.  It would...

    Caught up in the medical?

Not a smart thing.  The best is too be honest and disclose everything.  Remember that if you "Omit" something during your Medical and what you (who is not a medical professional in the military) thinks isn't significant, turns out to be significant and  affects you.  YOU CAN BE RELEASED from the...

    After Action Review

I was just wondering why the cricothyroidotomy??  FWIA #1 didn't appear to need it.  Would not an OPA/NPA or Combi-Tube have been a more efficient use of time?  It was also noted that the Patient wasn't Bagged until after he was on board the MH-60. ( Or just not mentioned earlier).

    Hemoglobin count

Just because you have a slightly higher Hemoglobin won't necessarily get you a MED UNFIT for the CF.  However we do need to know if the increase is because that's the way you are or is it because something is wrong.  Go back to you're Doctor and get the second test done, that way there the RMO...

All things LASIK surgery (aircrew/other -- merged)

Yes it is true about the laser eye surgery, but there are restrictions on which surgery you can have and there is a wait period as well.  For anyone serving or wanting to enlist, who wants to be a pilot and has been waiting for this.  Please call your local Med Section, or the Recruiting centre...

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

I remember being out in the "Wack" Last summer.  And sure the 17wk crse was crammed, we still had a lot of fun.  But I can't imagine not being able to just walk over to the school any old time and practice.  I think that really made a difference.  Being able to just gather 3 other ppl and head...

    There's a New CPR

MedTech, You were right, I misread my notes, the AED's for Civi and most other uses only shocks V-Fib, but V-fib is not the only shockable rythym, just that the others are for ALS and Doctors to take care of.  Either way, I'm glad it's in our tool box to use.

    There's a New CPR

Back in Ontario anyone can use the AED's now, thanks to superb stupid proofing of these devices.  The ont gov't changed the legislation a few years back, and now there is an AED at every school, pool, museum, places of work etc........ Of course unless you know how to do CPR as well, not much is...

    QL3's /SQ

It would definatley be shitty if I can't move my wife with me in borden.  Cause it'll make almost a year that we'll be apart if not more, but if she can't be moved then she can't at least I'm only a few hours away from home.  Seperation pay is nice, espcially when you actually get it, I guess it...

    QL3's /SQ

We don't mind doing SQ, since we know we'll be on the front lines with the combat arms teams, and those skills will most definately come in handy.  Too bad about waiting so long for the 3's course, at least it's time in and paid, and if I have to wait that long, I can put in to have my wife...
