It is with interest I note the comments directed at "volunteers", particularly the notion that we (yes, I have volunteered much of my time in semi-retirement to help out my Regiment) are examples of what serving soldiers should not become and somehow are lesser persons. I know we are not as...
Or this is a great PR move on Sony's part. Now everybody is discussing what was was probably a pretty mundane movie. How many people will buy the DVD just to see what all the fuss was about or to show they "won't be pushed around by North Korea"?
I would think that rather than going after her for issues of detail (which were not of her doing) and criticizing any possible "career embellishment" (which I suspect many of us have done either in the bar or around the campfire), we acknowledge that fact that she SERVED at all, and celebrate...
The motto of The Royal Canadian Regiment, of which I am not a member but have profound respect, is "Never pass a fault". Hard to implement sometimes but if military life was easy we wouldn't need leaders to lead. I suspect her faults were passed often.

Members of the Canadian Scottish Regimental Family will gather this evening at the Regimental Cenotaph in Pioneer Square in Victoria for a short service to commemorate the actions of the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's) and others who landed in France 70 years ago. Time: 1900 hours...
Reading "The Regiment" inspired me to join the Army many years ago, and with no regrets. Farley, thank you for so many wonderful stories, and now you can stand down. :salute:
