Hi, My understanding is the BMOQ-L mods must be completed in this sequence: BMOQ-L 5 Course ID 117680 BMOQ-L 2 Course ID 117677 BMOQ-L 1 Course ID 117676 BMOQ-L 3 Course ID 117678 BMOQ-L 4 Course ID 117679 Can anyone confirm?  Apologies if this repeats another thread -- mods please move if...

Am I too old, fat, or fit in? 2001 to 2016

Hi, Here's one more note of encouragement for those who are considering the Forces later in life: just finished PRes BMOQ (weekends) and BMOQ Mod 2 at the ripe old age of 48.  No prior military experience, sporadically athletic.  Not the easiest thing I have done in 48 years on this planet...

    Little Honking Ships......

The media blows military purchases out of proportion.  The submarines, the F 35, etc -- it's almost like they recycle the same old tired draft.  In the internet age, the Canadian public is better informed and smarter then that.  They don't need to rely on biased sources of information -- they...

Is the Canadian Naval Reserve all but finished?

The discussion seems constrained by existing rules and approaches.  Consider something outside the box: - In the major centres you have a supply of skilled tradespeople and professionals, who are largely available evenings, weekends and two to four weeks a year.  What could you do with a pool...

How to deal with people in clothing stores etc.

I waited about 4 - 5 months for my boots; another guy in my section similar experience, heard the same thing re: shortage of boots. By the way, THANK YOU to the folks in Clothing Stores at Denison for their consistent patience and professionalism -- probably does not get said enough.

Is the Canadian Naval Reserve all but finished?

I'd like to see more consideration of the supply side of the equation.  There is a greater supply of labour in the major markets (GTA, Edmonton - Calgary, Vancouver, ...).  This labour is skilled, employed, experienced, available evenings / weekends / several weeks in the summer.  Then the key...

    Running

I recommend the Running Room.  If there is a store in your neighborhood check it out... they have clinics (5K, 10K, Half, Marathon) and a free Sunday morning group run.  Great environment to learn more about running

    Logistics Officer - Sea [Merged]

"The prevailing wisdom is that as LogO tends to attract more applicants who are already established in their civilian careers than other MOCs, and the two months in two succeeding summers makes it harder for these folks to attend." For what it's worth, my vote is with 'prevailing wisdom'.  The...

    Navy Life In A Nutshell

Why would you go back to sea?  What is it that brings people back?

Naval Environmental Training Program ( NETP )

Sounds interesting (the sea survival and customs, maybe not so much the Winston Churchill stuff).  Is there a book or syllabus or agenda for NETP?  It's usually 4 to 6 weeks at Esquimault on the Orcas?

RCN charting a new course in command roles and the reserves

Is there any information as to what the change will look like for the Naval Reserve (i.e. new / different MOSIDs or training cycles) - or is it still too early?

    Signals Officer

That doesn't make sense to me but it DOES look like a lot of fun... I need to get out more  :) Four years in a Math / Comp Sci program and it sticks with you for life... friends don't let friends do math...

Applying to Reserve unit in another province

Apologies for bumping an old thread but I realized I did not answer your question -- why not just go reg force?  Unfortunately, I am established in my career.  For a number of reasons (mostly financial) it's not easy to go reg force.  I think this is one of the things about the Reserve that...

    MARS Occupation Manager

Hi, Can anyone advise if training for MARS has changed since last year (quote is taken from post in 2011 by MARS OM)?  "If you're attending a civilian university, upon completion, you should be heading off to Victoria and the Naval Officer Training Centre to take NETPO and then straight off...

PFD and Flotation Jackets for SAR

Can anyone recommend good suppliers for PFDs and flotation jackets for marine SAR?  I've been using Salus and Mustang, wondering if there are others -- preferably Canadian?  Cheers,

Software oriented career in the military?

What is the name of that specialization for MARS Officer?  Could you post a link or any other info? Cheers,

    Canadian Coast Guard

If you're interested in volunteering would recommend the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.  Units tend to be community-based so opportunities to volunteer, timing of shifts, training, etc would depend on the unit.  By the way, on the West Coast they have changed the name to Royal Canadian Marine...

    NTO Occupation Manager

Interesting, career progression at the banks is somewhat similar.  Most get to Senior Manager / Director and then there's a lot of competition for VP roles.  Lieutenant Commander sounds a lot more impressive then Senior Manager though...  :)

    NTO Occupation Manager

So the majority of NTOs stay in the trade and progress up the ranks for their entire career?

    NTO Occupation Manager

I wonder how the RCN can maintain sufficent bench strength of technical officers.  Demand for resources with good computer / electrical skill sets usually outpaces supply in the marketplace.  I don't see how they could maintain numbers given the added barrier of a long RCN training cycle.
