    Canada's gaining world's respect

For those who don't know about  Peter Worthington......... He served in both WW2 and Korea.  First, as a young RCN seaman, in 1944/45,  and later as a Infantry officer in Korea. His father was General Worthington, who led the fight to create the Canadian Armoured Corps, in the late 1930's...

    Cenotaph/Memorial Vandalism/Solutions-Laws (merged)

IN order to stop the goofy " take my picture while I grab my crotch " stuff and the actual disrespect of having kids climb on the Tomb, how about this........A cordon that completely surrounds both the tomb and the area where the sentries ars standing, with a  removable section  in it to march...

    U. S. Army bagpiper

Another bit about US military traditions. It seems  to me that not very many US Army units have a "name " as oppossed to a number. Example the 101st Airbourne, has the unoffcial  name " screaming eagles " but it is just that, unoffcial.  Most of their Army  units have a number, whereas the...

    U. S. Army bagpiper

I guess it is some kind of "cultural difference " between the Americans and us..............We would never, I hope, reffer to a "Bag Piper " all ways a " Piper ".  And of course,  pipers in the CF are given some status, while the US Army Sgt in the story,  seems be a  " army of one piper". ...

Anarchists call for Far-Left to converge on 2010 Olympics

One of the nice things about the left, including the far left, is that they are so willing to use communications that are simple to interdict, for intelligence gathering.  Long gone are the days when it was important to use phone taps, to find out what they were up to, now they put it into...

    MS Roxanne LaLonde - 21 April 2007

I kinow that during the WW2 era the George Medal was awarded to service persons who did brave acts while " off duty ". What would the modern CF award be , in this case? A brave act. Jim B. Toronto.

    Afghan Detainee Mega Thread

If i had a say in this,................which I don't. I'd prefer to see the Red Crescent doing it, if only for the optics of having a Internationally recognised Muslim aid organisation doing the monitoring. Bearin mind that "prisoners " in a Afghan jail may very well be your ordinary garden...

    Afghan Detainee Mega Thread

I have to wonder, what exactly is the individual CF guy suppossed to do with a captured Taliban fighters? Should he kill them outright, as they were just recently trying to do to him?  NO, not right, either morally, or under the Geneva convention rules. Should he let them go? Not right either...

A "First Nations" Unit Merged Thread.

IN fact ,The Gurkhas are "mercenary soldiers " who fight for pay. They sign for a 21 year contract, and only recently have they been granted any pension rights by the UK Government, so a poor compariosn to this idiotic idea spawned by this Liberal MP. Racially segregated CF units ? Crazy...

Dutch Soldiers Stress Restraint in Afghanistan

Is it relevant that the Dutch armed forces are unionised soldiers? Could that play into the lack of aggessive patroling and the "strictly defensive " attitude?  Just wondering if anyone had worked with them in the past, and could comment on their "work ethic ". ? Serious question. JimB.

Chaplains tend to soldiers' spiritual needs

Am I wrong in thinking that, just as in the rest of the population in Canada, there are  some  CF members who have no  need/desire to be "religious " in their life? Let me put it another way...........long ago as a Sea Cadet, I attended "Church Parades " but asked that I not have to go inside...

German submarine menaces the North Sea 61 years after its sinking

My question would be....................... Where can you store 130,000 pounds of anythinhg in a U boat ?  And where do you refuel it on the way to Japan ? JImB.

    A sketch.

A Mcleod> Take some advice from a gezzer about getting tatoos....................You never know what that bit of art work is going to "cost yah " later on. Not cheap or easy to get it taken off, either. Of course tatoos are a great way to identify dead bodies...........unless YOU are the one...

(USAF) Sergeant In Trouble For Playboy Spread

Reading the story, I see that she is MARRIED and has two kids. I hope the kids are not old enough to read, or see their Mum in the nude  in a magazine. Talk about a supreme lack of class, on her part. Can you say "discharge without honour " ? Jim B Toronto.

    Flying A Helicopter

Instead of a Sea King how about stealing a civvy helo that will not fall a part in the air ? Something discrete like an  air ambulance painted bright orange ? The Sikorski twin jet is fast and even has retacting landing gear. Jim B Toronto.
