    A Deeply Fractured World

It would be the first time a National Security Strategy has been written without a classified version. Then again, who knows with this administration. I can't imagine anybody serious actually wants to be associated with this thing.

Must have been added after I read. But either way, the crux of what I said is still there: They go harder on Europe than China or Russia.

    A Deeply Fractured World

You can read the article I linked to above. And it's completely consistent with Trump and Hegseth talking about a "G2" and their business deal errrr peace agreement with Russia. There's also been zero denials about any of this from the Administration.

They didn't. Somebody leaked this detail from their high side version.

    A Deeply Fractured World

Their definition of the most powerful here is what is laughable. Russia has an economy the size of Italy. Japan has no nukes and constitutional prohibitions against expeditionary ops. India has GDP per capita on par with Africa which substantially limits their geopolitical ambitions, since...

Classified version of the US NSS says 5 countries should run the world. US, China, Russia, India and Japan. https://www.defenseone.com/policy/2025/12/make-europe-great-again-and-more-longer-version-national-security-strategy/410038/?oref=d1-homepage-top-story They've basically defaulted to...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

You need to learn the concept of opportunity cost. And also the idea of "money doesn't grow on trees". And then what? We'd still be better off developing a GBAD and SBAD centric missile defence system because we'll never be able to put up enough aircraft continuously to cover all avenues of...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

We're not launching fighters regularly to fight off missiles at home. This is an example of people learning the wrong thing from Ukraine.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Shooting down missiles using fighter patrols is insanely inefficient and expensive. Ukraine is forced to do this by circumstance. Presumably we should be developing IAMD that doesn't require us to do this. Also, it's not clear how much we would do this domestically in any meaningful frequency.

This really is an excellent piece. And I get the sense that a lot of people commenting in this thread haven't read it. That Americans are forbidden from attending global forums is some BS. That they are surprised that the rest of the world is calling out their shit is actually kinda funny...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

FA-50s can sling Meteors. Something that is only now being integrated into the F-35. That's the longest range BVR missile in NATO inventory. So yes, this thing could hunt Bears if it had to. And do so for a lot less than an F-35. Think of it as a great fleet for Dom Ops and a nice bridge...

Aside from what I said about polling. Since Iraq, the US has lurched from one crisis to the next and increasingly with fewer resources to address any of this.

I actually prefer this to the Gripen. One less type. And an aircraft with all the features that the Gripen has to let pilots build time and experience. Also, we have to buy a trainer anyway. The Hawks have been retired. But also this turns the argument of the Gripen as Minimum Viable...

    A Deeply Fractured World

Except that the US is now doing exactly what the Chinese do. And less competently I might add. Beyond the Pacific, the Chinese don't seem to care much about values or geopolitics. Whatever gets them a trade surplus is the general rule. It's not that the Americans exported freedom. I was...

    A Deeply Fractured World

Everytime the Americans exported freedom somewhere McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Levis and Nike followed. It's been a minute since the Cold War, but people forget how much of a status symbol American brands were. And everything culturally American. From American cars to Hollywood movies. Even...

    A Deeply Fractured World

It's so ridiculous that it would have been better if they actually didn't publish anything. Imagine the glee in Beijing and Moscow to know that these clowns have completely set aside any consideration of national interest. It's only about their personal business and domestic political...

And others have no choice. Imagine you're in Japan or South Korea. If the US won't back you, how much can you refuse a deal with China.
