Cost to the Navy to send ships to hurricane

I was replying to an earlier post by Trinity: "Political cost - excellent rapport with the Americans during crazy times, such as not going to war with them, lumber disuptes, mad cow problem...." What I was getting at was that if we sent the ships down there we shouldn't be thinking either...

Cost to the Navy to send ships to hurricane

"Political cost - excellent rapport with the Americans during crazy times, such as not going to war with them." Are you saying that we should have gone to war (in Iraq) with them? Come on. I, for one, am glad that we didn't kowtow to them on that one.

IDF's Krav Maga as prep for BMQ/SQ, CAP, EXPRES

True enough. But I guess my original point was that Krav Maga is a practical and fun way of getting into shape quickly, as well as it being a good hand-to-hand defense system that the CF should take a look at adopting for personal combat.

IDF's Krav Maga as prep for BMQ/SQ, CAP, EXPRES

Yeah, but if you try doing all that stuff in public places (such as a city), people will think you're weird!  ;)

IDF's Krav Maga as prep for BMQ/SQ, CAP, EXPRES

In Regina, where I took Krav Maga, the chief instructor offered KM for youth, a (slightly) scaled down version of the adult class (but not by much, I was told). I am not sure what other Krav Maga centres are doing. At 14, you might be able to attend regular courses. I'd check with the nearest...

    AA in the CF

I'm just finishing up my Social Work degree this semester, and hoping at some point to OT as a CF Social Worker. For future client referrals, I was wondering how common AA groups are in the CF. Do most bases/locations have them? Thanks.

IDF's Krav Maga as prep for BMQ/SQ, CAP, EXPRES

Krav Maga was developed with these specific issues in mind, which is why it has been used by the Israeli Army for more than 50 years, and is increasingly being adopted/adapted by many police and military forces around the world. It dispenses with the "fancy kicks", prevalent in most martial...

Not yet. Hopefully soon! Whoever opens a KM school there would likely make good money with Borden being close by.

IDF's Krav Maga as prep for BMQ/SQ, CAP, EXPRES

True, but I was thinking more in terms of Krav's training value to new CF members, because of its focus on traditional military PT (such as proper push-ups and sit-ups - supervised by an instructor) as well as circuit training and general cardio-conditioning routines. You could do these things...

IDF's Krav Maga as prep for BMQ/SQ, CAP, EXPRES

Anybody here taking Krav Maga? (the Israeli Defence Force's hand-to-hand combat system) It's now being taught here in Canada, and I found it to be indispensible for preparing me for summer courses with more than a bit of PT. If anyone's interested in learning more about what it is and/or where...

    "Numbers Stations"

According to this source: http://home.luna.nl/~ary/lp.htm , the site of transmission for the Lincolnshire Poacher (as well as numerous other sigs) is the 12 Signals Unit of the RAF, just next to the village of Akiroti, Cyprus. This website has images of the broadcasting facilities, and they...

    "Numbers Stations"

Pronto: Never tuned into it. Just downloaded MP3 and WAV samples from this site:  http://www.simonmason.karoo.net/page14.html. They say its an MI6 signal being transmitted from the RAF Base in Akiroti, Cyprus. Who knows?  Judging from fact that they're using an old English folk tune...

    "Numbers Stations"

The term "numbers station" recently came to my attention, and I was wondering if anyone might have any further information, ideas and/or opinions on this rather mysterious subject of coded radio transmissions. For those who haven't heard of numbers stations, they are: "shortwave radio stations...

    Best Coffee Joints

Is Timothy's in any way connected to Tim Horton's? I was under the impression that Timothy's was the "high-end" version of Tim Horton's, as they're usually seen in more upscale settings such as downtown skyscrapers and such.

    stories about your first car

The first car I bought myself was a 1976 Mercury Marquis. I bought it in 1998. Remember the car John Candy drove in "Uncle Buck"? This was the same model and year of car, only mine was in worse shape. It was sort of a beige colour with significant "rust coloration" all over the body. It got...

    American CADPAT's?

I was talking to a buddy of mine today who said he saw a US Army officer being interviewed on CNN. He appeared to be wearing digtized camouflage combats, very similiar (if not identical) to our CADPAT's. My buddy said this guy's uniform looked almost exactly the same and the only way he knew he...
