    First special service force WW2

"Black Devil Brigade" by Joseph A. Springer is quite a read. Its all quotes by members of First Special Service Force. Interesting to me because my Uncle was one, and he never spoke much about his service to anyone, and there are a lot of quotes by him in the book.

What kind of Canadian are you? (Unscientific quiz)

East Coaster - even though I was born and raised on the Prairies, and have only lived here for 2 years! They should have added a "get rid of CBC" choice! Hawk

Pity teachers can't do this anymore...

Same grade 7 teacher lifted a kid, who looked like he outweighed the teacher by 50 lbs., right out of his desk - over the top, and frog-walked him out of the room, down the stairs, out the school door and next door, to the kid's house and presented him to his mother. End of problem! We learned...

Pity teachers can't do this anymore...

My Grade 7 teacher was a great shot with a black board eraser, or chalk. He told me if I heard him yell "Duck" to put my head down on my desk IMMEDIATELY. I sat in front of the class pain in the a@@, and an eraser was in coming! Finally it got too dangerous and he moved the pest way to the back...

The bus strike was horrible! On the up side - their contract runs to 2015, so the buses should be consistent till then! Its again possible to get where you're going, and more on time than they used to be! Hawk

    Posted to Halifax..

I live in an apartment on Ridge Valley Road, and there's another building just down Cowie Hill from me. Rent is much cheaper up here than down town, and my apartment is large and bright. Check with Universal Properties. I'm on a yearly lease, but you can opt for month to month. There's at least...

    Most store honey isn't honey

I go through lots of honey - I love the stuff! In Manitoba I was used to clover honey, and now I learn the brand I usually bought may not have contained any pollen! The last jar of Manitoba honey I had a friend gave me, and it was from a private producer. I don't know about pollen content. Now...

    Which political party supports christmas?

I'm in Halifax, and it appears to me that this city refuses to be PC when it comes to Christmas. Buses aren't displaying Not in Service signs, but Merry Christmas on the front of the bus instead. Merry Christmas is on signs, not just the ones in front of Christian churches, but in store front...

    Scotch

I had a chance to sample Glen Breton here in Halifax at the Seaport Farmers Market. I thought it had a "nice" flavour, and tried not to be an "imported single malt snob". Don't know that I'd invest in a bottle, but I rather liked it. Hawk

Christmas is coming, post gift ideas here.

For the one of you with the Secret Santa dilemma: We did that at work once, and I had the only non-smoker, non-drinker in the department. I got him a tin of Quality Street candy. His family had never had them before, and they loved them. My husband usually gave me jewelry, and as we were...

What's the dumbest thing you heard said today?

I would have paid money to see that! Another person and I did that to a kid right out of Cornwallis(we're talking 1966) at Esquimalt. This poor guy started around the parade square, and we called him back. We told him this wasn't Cornwallis, and he could angle across the parade square. Fool...

    The "Occupy" Movement

Too true! I'm sure I'm not the only one who yells at their computer, TV, and radio at times when we disagree, but most thinking people clean it up before going public! I've even yelled some things here, and had to edit it before I responded, or didn't respond at all - I enjoy my time here, and...

    The "Occupy" Movement

They sure hate Rex, don't they? I don't think I've ever read such hatred anywhere. I don't always agree with Rex, sometime I think he's wrong-headed, too (not in this case!), but I'd never put a diatribe like some of those out for public consumption!! Hawk
