This is sad but let me put this to rest. I have worked with every woman Sar Tech except for the one who was unfortunately injured on course. I trust everyone of them with my life and the lives of those they have, and will save. They are top performers and have earned their right to be in the...
Eye in the Sky gives good advise regarding finding a trade you'd be happy with doing the rest of your career. SAR Tech is by no means guaranteed. There is a lot of good info in the actual SAR Tech thread as well if you go through it.
Anyways I'll answer your questions here an hopefully a mod...
I'm still around but more of a lurker then an active participant these days. I did get your message ballz and will get back to you tonight or tomorrow. We have a complicated work schedule that is not the easiest to explain.

I'm struggling with some of the wording in this article as it is extremely misleading through lack of follow up information. IMO, this article verges on finger pointing. I can only hope and assume that the actual FS report contains more info.

I don't have an answer for you but the Sar Tech trade has ceased it's direct entry program so it would not matter if you were PCP qualified anyways.
Good luck with your decision.
Being in SAR is generally easier on the family as you are not away for months at a time. However, your schedule tends to be a living, ever evolving beast that changes daily. This is not SAR tech specific as all trades involved in SAR deal with it.
