Popularity amongst ANAVs for ship postings

Generally speaking, at least in the past, 25% of a BANC course would go MH. I'm not sure how this will change in the near future if at all. The popularity of MH varies course by course and the only way close to guaranteeing going MH is by finishing first on the course. However, that being said...

    Air Nav promotion progression

Generally speaking you will be promoted when you have 3 years commissioned service. If by the time you finish BANC (Basic Air Navigator Course) you already have three 3 years you will be either promoted directly to Capt or shortly after.

Will the C17s Make it to the Ramp?

The deployment DART at the end 2004 (Tsunami)  was delayed for a number weeks precisely because we were not able secure strategic lift. Edit - Oops looks like I missed the punch line.

Air Nav postings....and other random questions

I'm a Sea King Tacco so I can help you a bit. Inch pretty much hit the nail on the head for the Sea King world. I went through CFANS in 2000 and finished a tour at 423 last summer. When I was in CFANS the breakdown for airframes was 50% Aurora 25% Herc 25% Sea King. When this will change would...

Popularity amongst AVN/AVS tech's for ship postings

Just to add a couple points. I would say if anything shearwater or pat bay are less popular than other postings because of the fact that you have to go to sea. To go to sea as an avn/avs you must be a fully qualified tech (I believe referred to as level 3 signing authority) which usually takes...

    Fleet Air wings?

If you go to the Shearwater Aviation Museum you will see the Obeserver Mates Wings which are very similar. http://www.shearwateraviationmuseum.ns.ca/images/crests/wings/rcn-om.jpg

    Fleet Air wings?

Just to clarify the fore runner of the AESOp trade was the Observer's Mate, the Observer trade was the officer equivilant of todays Navigators , which was phased out of the RCN with the reitrement of the Avenger. The Tracker and early Sea Kings were crewed by pilots and Observer's Mates. If you...

    Air Navigators

As for specifics of what exactly V3 is I couldn't tell you. I know that people with V3 where glasses and my understanding is that V3 is pretty much standard for any Op trades in CF.

    Air Navigators

Whoever is telling you that ANAVs "fly" the aircraft or train to fly the aircraft in emergencies is completly wrong. ANAVs certainly "fly on" aircraft and are involved in the "flying" of the aircraft (ie depending which aircraft and mission will handle navigation and communication). The main...

Need advice ... in a tough situation

Zach15 I have been a Nav on Sea Kings for the last 5 years. I have to say I have enjoyed every minute of it. If you do chose to go Nav you will pretty much have to complete a tour as nav beforing OT'ing. After you get your wings you are restricted from releasing from the trade for 4 years...

    A couple Deck Ops videos

Just in case people didn't think that shipborne flying is dangerous. First video I believe is from AETE deck trials on the CPF in the early 90s. It isn't always this bad but it certainly can get like this. http://www.alexisparkinn.com/photogallery/Videos/2006-7-7_Sea_Kings_on_Deck.wmv Second...

Chinook named as intended purchase through PWGSC Advance Contract Award Notice

Start thread jack... Doc Bacon your asseration that S-61 logging helos work harder and are maintained better CF CH-124 is completely unfounded. Civy logging S-61s do not fly in all sorts of weather they fly in VMC weather. Heli-loggin is a VFR evolution I would be greating impressed if someone...

Canada converts Sea Kings for battlefield role with SCTF

Beenthere I pretty much agree with you. Sea Kings have done utility work since the begining but basically any helicopter can do utility in a non-threat in environment. You don't need a Nav, AESOp or FE specifically for the ultility role basically just an aft crewman. The current situation of...

Canada converts Sea Kings for battlefield role with SCTF

Just a heads up on FEs on Sea Kings. Shearwater cannot handle the training bill to reintroduce FEs into the Sea King for the SCTF. The third crewman on SCTF helos will be filled by either Navs or AESOps likely till the end of the Sea Kings life. As to future SCTF ops with the 148 that is anyway...

    Air Navigators

AESOp is Airbonre Sensor Operator and like navymich has said it is remuster only which means you have to join military as another trade and then remuster and a latter date. I am not sure of the exact requirements to remuster but I believe it is something like QL5 qualified and a corporal but...

    Air Navigators

Leo the NCM trade you are looking is AESOp. As a AESOp you work closely with Navs and use many of the same skills. AESOps can CFR to Nav and the Nav trade has quite a large number of former AESOps.

ROTP at Civilian University 2004 - 2018 [Merged]

George you cannot use university credits strictly for OPMEs, however 4 fo 6 OPMEs are run like university course and are in fact courses which you can take at RMC. For example one OPME is Canadian Military history if you take the course at RMC obviously you don't have to do the OPME. As well if...
