    Sleep Issues on course [MERGED]

Is the course still delivered in Mods and is the whole course still 12 weeks? I understand delivery in modules is a sore point with some DS at the Infantry School but for many reservists there is no other way to make the training fit with civilan employment. Another problem is course...

    issued hexamine fuel tablet cooker?

Or you could just ask CQ to issue you a "ration heater" which is an oval of aluminum which nests with your canteen cup; flip it over and it holds you cup about 2 inches above the ground and allows you to heat the cup with a hexamine tab. Most guys use a jetboil or other iso butane stove but as...

    Canadian Source for MREs/IMPs?

http://www.theammosource.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=196&zenid=079dba54818a0adad9907586c58bae98 Costco also lists MREs at slightly higher prices than the above.

    Rifles for Rangers

Fair enough. Let's get on with developing the reserves up there then... we need something up there year-round.

    Rifles for Rangers

Well mate, we're kicking ideas around here. Not sure what "lane" I need to be in to toss in my 2 cents, but I've lived Nunavut communities, and actually worked with Rangers. I'd say I'm within my arcs, but feel free to laugh away. I advocate a more active role for the Rangers, they are our only...

    Rifles for Rangers

Geo, I don't see anthing inherently wrong with reservists keeping their weapons at home, however there would be little practical reason for it under current circumstances. Rangers on the other hand live in an environment where firearms are an important and valuable tool. Overwatch, I am...

    Rifles for Rangers

It happens in lots of other countries. Also I suggested that a Ranger issued C7 could be limited to semi only, this would give them a rifle that is really no different than what they could buy themselves (for example a Mini-14). As for why... the Rangers are a part of the military, and we want...

    Rifles for Rangers

I have spent some time in Nunavut and virtually all the hunters I saw carried .223 (5.56mm) rifles for hunting virtually everything, including Tundra Grizzly. I would imagine that the Inuit would be very happy to issued a 5.56mm weapon, which is what they seem to prefer anyway. I would like to...

Reserve initial kit issue ( merged )

Yes you will likely be kitted but that will depend on the availability of an appointment with supply. In the meantime, focus on your physical fitness and don't worry too much about your uniform. The army will give you everything you need (probably) before you need it.

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

I'm almost positive we would. In fact in some of the larger centers I would bet you could support an army reserve unit too. I have worked throughout most of the Eastern Arctic and in addition to a lack of employment there is also great enthusiasm for the military and for Canada as a nation. I...

    CAP vs. other infantry courses

I'm sure THAT would go over well with the course WO. It would probably be a good way to make friends.  Maybe I'll also make up a gillie suit just to show the staff how keen I am... I'll tell them you said it would be okay ;)

    CAP Aldershot

I'll be on this course too. Anyone else also doing BOTP in May and then starting CAP in June?

    COOL Field Bike

I actually have one of the mil versions. Decent enough bike, a bit on the heavy side but the folding feature is way handier than I would have thought. Prices have come down alot recently to the point where they are IMO worth the money. Private pilots tend to use them because they fit into Cessnas.

    Helmet Cam

Since when is scrim out? We were told to use scrim on course last summer. I think it is quite useful to break up the outline of the helmet. An alternative would be the Israeli Mitznefet, which may look goofy but is IMO very effective.

    Service Blue Star Pin (US)

I had never heard of this until today but apparently its a tradition for family members of deployed soldiers to wear a blue star pin. Like this; http://www.united-states-flag.com/selapin.html Seems like a great idea to me. Any thoughts on something similar up here?

    Firearms training

An exception would be the Rangers unless things have changed recently.

    MG3

I believe they are being used in Afghanistan on the leased Leopard 2s. Other than that I've never heard of them in CF use. Too bad, they're a great weapon.

    Canadian G3s?

I have a copy of small arms of the world that lists G 3s as being confiscated from FLQ members back during the "unpleasantness" of the 1970s. I don't recall the quantity but I remember being surprised it was so many. Maybe some older members of the board were there and can tell us.

The Movie 300 and response by Iran

I'm not sure you're correct (if I understand you correctly) about him having no political intent. In Miller's own words: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=24146_Batman_Artist_No_Moonbat&only

Last time I checked there was a fully operational one (and a M113 as well) in private hands in Calgary.
