The General did a great job explaining his important AOTHR, Crossbow and Space based ISR are. Combined, they are as important or more than the F-35. And he's uniquely placed as the former DG Air and Space Force Development to understand how it feeds into ops.
We know they didn't think this (recapitalizing the oil sector) through. There's reporting they are trying to bully the oil sector to get them to invest in Venezuela, making recovery of losses from nationalization conditional on substantial investment in Venezuela. They really didn't expect the...
Rystad says they need $110B to get back to production levels before Chavez.
Think about what that means. Where do they get that kind of capital? How long does it take to invest that capital? How long does it take to get a return on investment? Who will be President in both countries over...
Zero chance of any reprisal from Russia or China directly. If China openly threatened actual consequences, Maduro would probably be on a flight home right now. Mostly for China they don't really care that, that much. It's more annoyance than massive strategic impact. Right now, their...
Nah. Very valid label. He only follows through where the risk is extremely low. All the Chinese had to do was threaten rare earths exports for a bit and Trump caved completely on all the Chinese tariffs. The administration has zero nuance in their understanding of escalation dominance...

I've got a subscription. Just posting a relevant portion of the article. Hope we can stop with the Chicken Little routine that Canadian oil is suddenly finished.
No situation is perfect. But I think some compensation will go along way towards improving good will and making reserve service something employers can more easily support.
Weird take to be pro-Maduro though. But tankies gonna tankie I guess. So many of them aren't so much opposed to authoritarianism and imperialism as they are opposed to American authoritarianism and imperialism. They are okay if anybody else does it.
I think something we need to consider is some kind of reimbursement to employers for employees missing time. This might help reduce employment discrimination against reservists.
Stealth turboprop?
I have questions. I question whether it's simply better to create optional packages that helicopters and tiltrotors can use. At the end of the day CUAS has to be substantially organic.
Very hard to maintain reserve currency status and not run trade deficits. That's how dollars are exported. If the world needs to buy more US goods, they would be returning the dollars that are abroad. I wonder how they square the circle.
So dumb. Americans don't fear nukes. At least for this generation, they fear occupation. And maybe if Venezuela ends up a completely failed state, they'll fear meddling too.
You're discussing this in the context of Canada. How much of this is true in other countries? Mostly notably applicable to our discussion the US. Also, with all of this, it can be handwaved away by simply saying Maduro doesn't have diplomatic immunity. You can see why people think...
I still remember 2002/2003 when everybody thought Iraq was going to be easy. Remember this right before everything went to shit and the insurgency started:
Diplomatic Immunity isn't actual legal right. It's custom derived out of convention. Countries generally recognize it because it's beneficial all around to recognize it. And they exercise it through prosecutorial discretion. Not legal judgements.
For example, in Ottawa, we had a Russian...
