Absolutely.
There is nothing preventing us from allowing multiple aircraft quals for both techs and aircrew.
Whether it is practical (given the available working days in a year) to be safe and proficient on multiple fleets is another matter altogether.
There is no “usually”.
Each case is decided on the individual parameters of the situation.
All this to say- it depends on what the medical review people in Ottawa think your prognosis is. That will determine which option they will choose.
The US won’t give a shit if we buy 88 F-35s (or something approximate) and mess around with Grippens, on the side.
If we try to buy just 16 F-35s and go Grippen after that, expect the US government to veto the sale. Which, they can.
And everyone of those “elbows up” folks who want to order Grippens keep forgetting that alot of that aircraft is based off of US tech, which the US can veto the sale of. Which, they will. No one will come to our defence, if they do.
This is a fever dream. We are buying F35s. Or else.
I believe that we should be transactional.
We should be buying the best gear that fits our Defence needs, at the best price we can get.
Sometimes, that will mean buying US, because it suits us, not because we are doing them any favours. Other times, it might mean buying Canadian, South Korean...
Ryan is former US Army and runs a cyber security firm. I have watched a lot of his stuff and he is very careful to state when he believes that he is at the end of his expertise. In other words, he is better than most Youtubers.
