    The Cdn. Military Police - Time - Date - Place - I Was - I Saw - I Did

I'm guessing that he did go get the other L/Cpl, returned and proceeded to give the two brutes a thrashing with the aid of their clubs.  No Sgts.  Just lesson teaching time.

    Favourite Military Books

I just finished This Man's Army by Andrew Exum.   This fellow served as a platoon commander with the 10th Mountain Division in Operation Anaconda.   He just released from the US Army a couple of months ago and this book is already out.   Anyway, has some interesting first-hand accounts of...

    Best Coffee Joints

All I can say is I get very annoyed when I go to a Timmies and they don't have debit!   Seems way too common, although the various Timmies seem to be getting with the program a little more. All this Timmie talk... now I'm going to go over to the Krispy Kreme that opened here a few months ago...

Death of (AWOL) Gully Lake hermit confirmed

He obviously chose to live that life, so why feel pity for him?  Sounds to me like he actually had an enjoyable life for the most part.

    Engineering

I was told definitively by my recruiting officer that 11 offers for AERE were given.   Always a possibility that he was wrong, but the number seems reasonable to me and I don't have any reason to doubt it.  But, as hoser indicated, information provided by the CFRC isn't infallible.

    I know it says Army..............

Awesome, thanks! Interesting about the timing for the phase training, though.  According to the occupation sheet (you know, the glossy ones down at the CFRC or online) the phase training (5 months) happens after the PPTs.  I guess it doesn't really matter and would likely depend upon when the...

    Qualifying for storage

Hey thanks, Inch! Sorry, by SE I meant Separation Expense. Anyone have a link to current PLD rates?   Since DND changed the website, the links I had are no longer valid and the one reference I seem to be able to find points to an Intranet site. Edit: Found an old chart in a Pers newsletter...

    Qualifying for storage

Hey thanks!   Pretty much how I viewed it--just wanted some clarification from someone who's done it.   One more clarification, though.   In regards to the PLD, it is SE or PLD but not both, is that correct? Oh, and as far as I know, as Air Force I won't be doing CAP.   Perhaps there is a an AF...

    Qualifying for storage

Yes, AERE (remember, you were going to ask your AERE bud about PPT..?  :salute:). So that is a rather interesting possibility that you've mentioned.  First I've ever heard of that, though, so this deserves more looking into.  At this point I'm not really sure who I would approach about this...

    Qualifying for storage

No, I own my house.   We aren't interested in selling it (especially not before I finish all of my training!), we'll rent it out if my wife goes out to St-Jean, but we don't want to rent it out with our furniture in it.    This is silly, I know... the simplest and most financially beneficial...

    Qualifying for storage

This will be true during basic, obviously.  Afterward, though, we might want to live off-site while I'm doing SLT.  In that case, storage becomes an issue as I'm not going to move all our household belongings from Calgary to St-Jean.  I'll pick up the storage costs myself if I have to, but it...

    Qualifying for storage

Ok, so when I accepted my DEO offer one of the questions my recruiting officer asked me was if I wanted to receive storage. Going on what Wingman previously mentioned about this apparently being a one-shot deal and if you don't take it when it's first offered they'll not offer it again, I said...

    China Exchange?

Smoothbore, no one is disputing that there are many hard working Asians in Canada. But you are out to lunch if you insist that a criminal element hasn't also come in along with those hard-workers. Asian gangs are a very definite problem in Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton.  I'm not sure about...

    I know it says Army..............

I need to correct my earlier post about the lengths of IAP and BOTP.  I double checked and IAP is actually going to be 9 weeks, with BOTP lasting 5 weeks.  So still 14 weeks, but there seems to be a change in focus.  brneil had mentioned to me quite some time ago that the CF had some changes in...

    I know it says Army..............

Great info, Inch! About the course length for basic, the dates specified on my offer letter indicate that IAP is going to be 8 weeks long and BOTP is going to be 6 weeks (this must be one of the changes as I believe IAP used to be 6 and BOTP 8).  Immediately followed by up to 33 weeks of SLT...

RCA and D-Day veteran "Scotty" diagnosed with Alzheimers

James Doohan was wounded on D-Day, losing the middle finger of his right hand.  He has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimers and also suffers from several other diseases, one of which stemmed from chemical exposure while with the Royal Canadian Artillery...

Friendly fire' pilot given reprimand and fine

I still don't understand why one of the punishments wasn't getting turfed on his ass out of the Air Force with a dishonourable discharge.  He's closer to the end of his flying days than the start, anyway.  The punishment is not severe enough.  Especially considering his attitude about the whole...
