Homophobic Tory apologized for his remarks

Midge, Exactly! Thankyou for making my point. What the opposition are doing is exploitive and insulting. It's no great revelation that you can catch a guy on tape at a moment when he wasn't thinking.  It seems pretty clear that he had not thought out what he was saying. He hasn't been given a...

Homophobic Tory apologized for his remarks

There is no condoning the MP's words........however, If the tape had quietly stayed on the shelf, who would be offended? The words are offensive, so we broadcast them far and wide and make sure we are all offended by them? In a sense the NDP have employed a double standard. Their motive was...

World Religions: Statistics, Respect and Selecting a Faith

On the subject of free will. In my (Christian) faith, it's required. Mom is Catholic, we were all raised Methodist.  When I got to high school I became a baptist.  As a kid I didn't care for church and didn't know anything about it. As a high-school aged baptist I was baptised again- by my own...

Islam-bashing film sparks fears of violence

Reccesoldier, My qualifier was not historical signifigance or seriousness. My list starts with who bugs me most. The "progressive" crowd choose to be how they are more than the others on your list ( I think) I would put communists as second.

Islam-bashing film sparks fears of violence

Wes, Irshad Manji, a canadian author describes The Trouble With Islam ( her books' title ) as being an expresion of Arab culture. I believe this to be true. I think you touched on this in your post. I have met many sincere muslims who are great neighbours and members of my community.  I have...

    Sick crimes in Illinois

Ex Dragoon - I had assumed as much when I first read it. Consent doesn't come from someone living the way this person was. TCBF - you're probably right on both counts.

    Sick crimes in Illinois

Am I being baited?  ;D I will agree that there is no "rehabilitation". I don't think there is deterrence either. Geo, I'm a little shocked at your lack of concern for the environment....  ;) My original comment was more along the lines of social services having dropped the ball. This young...

    "Talking to the Taliban"

I'm waiting for the other clips to come out before I pass judgement. I suspect that the theme of the whole thing is that NATO is picking on the wrong guys in the war on terror and the Taliban are more reasonable than we have been led to believe. Just my gut - maybe that piece of sausage I was...

Ex-top ports cop: 'We’re wide open'

Security isn't the only issue. It's only a matter of time before someone shows up at a strip mall medical clinic and is sent on his way because the doctor there has never seen Ebola or plague before. Talk about a false economy! Save a few bucks on police and then spend a fortune cleaning up...

    Sick crimes in Illinois

Geo, I think Riley is a symptom of a depraved and indifferent society. This tragic mess was allowed to go on for some time. From what I have heard from my sister (who's a nurse) - this kind of thing isn't nearly rare enough. There is no justice to find here.....IMHO

    Global Warming/Climate Change Super Thread

I found this in the National Post. Link The media snowjob on global warming Lorne Gunter, National Post  Published: Monday, March 10, 2008 Ronaldo Schemidt, AFP, Getty ImagesAl Gore won a Nobel Peace Prize, not a science award. Just how pervasive the bias at most news outlets is in favour...

    The Chuck Cadman Merged Thread

No ! Harper quietly and without rancour voted for the Liberal budget. Dion, however goes to town on the conservative budget, makes a whole lot of noise which ultimately signified nothing. Harper seems to mean what he says and seems to do what he means. Dion, seems to have no idea what to do...

I am sick of the (Place Political Party Here)

Whatever social ill that makes society so extreme and partisan is what bugs me. This appears to be present on both sides of our great southern border. While the philosophies of each of the party players are not that different, we have unnecessary rancour and strife over the details of who does...

Not opposing the last liberal budget (to everyone's amazement). I admit I might be a little biased, but it appears to me that the Liberals deserved everything they got and Harper didn't have to make stuff up, or libel or slander etc.

I guess democracy doesn't work...protests on Afghan mission.

My favorite example of Canadian "mediation" is the action at Kap Yong. It's a good starting point to discussing Medak Pocket. And the seperation of Peacekeeping myth from Peacekeeping fact. My point - Giving the farm away to bad guys doesn't buy peace..... ergo - It's poor mediation.

    The Chuck Cadman Merged Thread

What it seems like to me is that the Liberals sense of entitlement has gotten the better of them.  When Harper was in opposition he took a principaled and generally beneficial approach to opposing the government.  The Liberals as opposition have the Chi and their Karma out of whack, the universe...

The Fifth Estate: "Life And Death In Kandahar" airing 12 Mar 08

As I expected, I was bustin' with pride at what The medical people were doing. They seemed to extrapolate on M*A*S*H a little. Not in a good way either. I did feel like I wanted to give the One doctor a bit of a shake but the career Army surgeon more than made up for it. All in all, not bad...

Lt. Col. Hammond Speaks at Trent University

I think this describes the key to the military being understood and respected by society at large. CONTACT.  Negative stereotypes and stupid assumptions melt away in the face of real human contact.  Glad to hear that these lectures are happening.  :)

Having watched "The Path To War" doc. on Global I can say that it was more of a book promo than anything.  There is a tone of Canada sliding down a slippery slope but the history of the thing gets straightened out.  Like I said - A book promo.

    Iran Super Thread- Merged

I think this is why we have UN peacekeepers on our money. In the Canada I was brought up in, the United Empire loyalist tradition was slowly  displaced and deemed to be non-PC.  Nothing could replace it exept a new Trudeau-esq Canadian self image that has also grown some warts. What to do?
