    Medical travel reimbursement

So if he lives on the south side of town, 5km from the appointment, and the base is 30km north, he should be reimbursed for 60km? Base-to-appointment and back? Even though he only drives 10km? I don't know many employers that do a lot of the stupid shit the CAF does, I probably wouldn't use...

    Medical travel reimbursement

This entire thread has been giving me anxiety for days and watching it turn into a bun fight reminds me why I need to stop coming on this site while I am still decompressing from the years of stupidity I had to endure in the CAF. I'm not sure I've seen more incorrect statements said in one go...

    New Dress Regs 🤣

I think the COs and RSMs should lead by example by not trying to create their own policies - that they have no authority to create other than bullying - just because they don't like it. The institution has decided what is and what is not important, where the threshold is for dress and...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Well Canada only has about 8 tanks that aren't on the VOR at any point in time, so it would be pretty accurate...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Kinda like they already ignore it even though it's departmental direction? $400/hr is the going rate, minimum charge of $1000. Ironically I'd be telling them exactly what's already written in the FAM on S.34 where it clearly shows finance staff are supposed to manage payables.............. see...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Pay/Compensation/benefits is actually an HRA function... don't even get me started on that. No, CQs don't have a budget... in two of three Reg Force Brigades I was in, I've never been able to find a unit that is willing to delegate any budget and requisite financial authorities Many will say...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

I can't speak to procurement itself but the FSAs should not be involved in the actual procurement process. FSAs are the CAF's accountants, whether anyone in the CAF realizes that or not. Accountants should not be involved in procurement, that's 100% a supply/warehouse function. FSAs should be...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

That's the smartest observation I've heard come out of the PMO in a long time. I'm not sure that criticism is solely aimed at the LPC... the DND has turned in billions of dollars they were given because of it's incompetence. We certainly do... one would think GOFOs would have been lobbying...

    French Grey Inn - Edmonton

It was $65/night and about $25/day for rations in the fall, doubt it's been changed since then.

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Way to open up my old wounds. I was writing a big long post in response to this, and then remembered that part of releasing was that I would leave the utter catastrophe that is CAF finance behind me so I just deleted it all. Suffice to say, your first sentence is too generous, and I don't agree...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

I have been saying for a long time that I would not give the CAF any additional money until it sorts itself out. In saying that, legislation needs to be passed to give the DND it's own set of contracting rules. Perhaps the TB already has the authority and doesn't need any additional legislation...

Does element matter in a purple trade?

There was a 2Lt from Toronto on my Log O training, RMC type, that put her posting preferences down as Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver as an Army Log O. She told me after she found out her first posting was to Wainwright, she looked it up on Google Maps and immediately started crying. :ROFLMAO:

Op UNIFIER - CAF and the Ukraine Crisis

The MND just said on Power and Politics that the 3400 is part of what we already have pledged to NATO... they've been put on a reduced NTM... so in other words, nothing to see here.

    Transfer Value... buying an annuity?

I would need a whole 'nother thread to talk about this strange human tendency. Suffice to say, I fully agree and my advice for people is the same... the hell with 'em, go swing for the fences. Seriously, there's a weird psychological phenomenon with humans that seems to see people who have...

    Transfer Value... buying an annuity?

There are also things that one might want to do with that kind of capital that are hard to put a value on, particularly when you're still in your late 20s or early 30s. For example, using the TV to start a business.... which could be a flop but also has fairly unlimited potential to create...

    Transfer Value... buying an annuity?

I did look into this further, so since it's come back up... It's pretty uncommon for someone in their 20s/30s to be buying an annuity, so you won't see it advertised, but it is possible. The Sunlife person that did one up for me: "I have to admit, I have not quoted an annuity for anyone your...

2022 CPC Leadership Discussion: Et tu Redeux

I dunno... Trump's presidency sure seemed to have an effect on our culture. It's like we're exactly 10 years behind the US in polarization and what used to be fringe is gaining enough momentum to elect a Trump of their own.
