Parka, Extreme Cold Weather Combat Og107,1974

Replying because a) i am genuinely curious as to why you are so concerned with the provenance of a parka; and/or b) to bring it back to the the top of the pile so someone  who may have an answer or knows where to get an answer sees it BTW I seriously doubt a 1974 parka had anything to do with...

    H-Huts in CFB Shilo

Would  the old army huts that were at UBC be considered H-Huts ? I spent the first 5 years of my life in one of them.

    Cluster Munition Treaty and Canada

Forgive the ignorant civilian, but I take that using the DIPCM up in training/exercises is not an option ? I can think of at least two reasonable arguments against a) it isn't the current system so no training benefit b) the danger of UXO Please don't tell me that there is nothing in the...

HMCS Ojibwa sub enroute to London-area museum

Having just returned from Australia, where I had the opportunity to visit HMAS Onslow (still in the water) in Sidney at the Australian National Maritime Museum.  I am glad that there is a chance  to see a Canadian example of an Oberon. The Australians seem to have done in right in having an...

    Walts, posers & wannabes (merged)

Interesting decision but likely to be completely ignored in light of the other SCOTUS decision today. Can libel against a "Class" (Military Veterans etc.) be argued ?  (but then that is civil not criminal).

    British Military Current Events

Just as a correction/clarification, Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma was Prince Philip's uncle rather than Queen Elizabeth's uncle (although doubtless there was some blood relationship).

I think I said somewhere else on this site that the official life of a subsidiary regimental title is generally as long as the average career of a RSM. Guess I was wrong on this one.

WW II bomb fears force closure of B.C. beach

Point conceded, I have no idea what standards in the 1960s -70s were and I will accept on good faith that they were met. Sorry if I 'm belabouring this, I was just on the Dunes in September of last year

WW II bomb fears force closure of B.C. beach

No conspiracy thoughts here at all, thank you very much for telling me what I think. Crap does happen that is not attributable to some evil intent and I recognize that, it still doesn't lessen my annoyance level at the years of inaction for whatever reason. The locals at least didn't forget the...

WW II bomb fears force closure of B.C. beach

It's not so much the delay in action required to clean up the 50 year old ordinance but the fact that there was 50 years without anything being done to clean it up that is the major source of my annoyance.  Out of sight, out of mind.

WW II bomb fears force closure of B.C. beach

Just in time for the May long weekend "Part of Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island has been closed to the public because bombs left over from the Second World War might be buried in the sand."...
