    Basic Officer Training

Getting by in St-Jean with only english is fine.  Granted, I've spent only a limited amount of time in the town, but I've encountered no significant problems.  I've shopped at the mall, Wal-Mart, eaten at establishments, and spent time at local bars.  And, if it was that big of an issue, take...

Is there anybody here waiting for the Oct-Nov DEO board meeting results?

One guy in my platoon is CELE and was up for selection last spring (when I was selected).  From what he and I can gather, the main reason he got accepted for CELE and I didn't (I got SIGS, which I'm happier with anyways) was because CELE was his only choice.

    While in basic

There are actually more than that.  They're $1 for 15 minutes, and there are four of them in Subway and four more in the Green Break area.  They're slow as shit (being that they're dialup) but they can get the email done.  But use the advice given.  During the first four weeks, I didn't touch...

ROTP Civvy-University Cadets--how do we refer to ourselves?

Being that you're MARS, you might be better off saying "I plan on eating my young".

    The C7 Assault Rifle, M16, & AR15 family (C7A1, C7A2, C7 replacment, and C7 vs M16)

Having just finished my classroom weapons training here at St-Jean (weapons test was two days ago), I will confirm that we were told to "strike the forward assist with the palm".  On numerous occaisions throughout the training,  people in my platoon were told that pressing it with your thumb was...

Is there anybody here waiting for the Oct-Nov DEO board meeting results?

Good luck everybody.  If anybody has any questions about what life is like in St. Jean for the first part of IAP, I can try to answer them.  I just finished week 4, and am on leave for the weekend.

    Where Has Cadets Taken You?

Just for the sake of conversation/comparison, I'll say where my brother went.  I was never in cadets. Comox, Winnipeg, Ottawa/Quebec, Colorado Springs for trips.  Plus all the camp stuff (Penhold and Gimli, I believe).  I'd have to say Colorado Springs was about the coolest place I've heard of...

    Google's GMail (& invites)

Ghost, you can have one of mine.  Just PM me another email address to send it to. Also, I think the "promotion" thing is gone.  Unless I'm missing something.

Is there anybody here waiting for the Oct-Nov DEO board meeting results?

I'm not sure specifically, but no less than 3 weeks, and no longer than 5 weeks.

    Reserve INT

The recruiting site says "four years of military service including operational experience."

    Google's GMail (& invites)

I've got some invites to do away with as well, if anybody requires one. So far, so good, in my books.  Probably the best webmail interface I've seen to date, and I like the idea of being able to label items rather than simply file them (I have yet to use that feature much though).

    Smart Decison?

I as well would advocate staying in school.  First off, you mention you'd like to spend a few years in the military, so obviously it isn't viewed by you as a career move.  When you do get out, you'll have a tough time doing anything (I'm talking about higher education specifically, but it...

    Whats a entry plan?

One thing to mention about the recruiting center never answering.  Are you leaving messages?  Its fairly common for many businesses (banks spring to mind) to screen calls.  The recruiting officer I dealt with was no different.  When someone calls and leaves a message, it enables the person...

    Dundurn - Restricted Airspace

That is very true, and that brings up an important point.  The fact that they did respond is a testament to the quality of a job they do, and the awareness they have of the area.  In my original, rather hasty post, I completely ignored that aspect.  I believe the concern on the part of my...

    Dundurn - Restricted Airspace

Unfortunately, that isn't a realistic option.  Paying passengers necessitate that Saskatoon is where the balloon is operated from, if it is to fly at all.  Neither Prince Albert nor the Battlefords have the population base to support a ballooning business.  Travelling to/from those locations is...

    Best Coffee Joints

The trick is to have espresso in moderation, so that when you need a wake-up, its there.  When I'm driving long distances, and I get tired near the end of the drive (the last couple hours, usually), I'll pick up an espresso based beverage.  My go-to choice is a good triple venti vanilla latte...

anyone flying to st jean on sunday?

That includes trips to and from the CFRC when they tell you to report, as well (at least, in my case).  The day I did all my processing, as well as today (swearing in), I was reimbursed $4 ($2 each way, the cost of bus fare in Saskatoon, even though I didn't take the bus).

    IAP/BOTP Sept 11th

Woo, I was sworn in today.  Three people from Saskatoon, a Pilot, an Infantry Officer, and myself (Signals Officer).

    Only One Man's Opinion

First off, I think its important to point out that not all DEO applicants are applying for the infantry.  Many of the potential DEO applicants on this forum may have been talking about something other than infantry officer.  In fact, most/many of the people who have posted here that they are...
