Saw a bunch of cadets today....

The air cadet squadron my brother was in most certainly wasn't fully funded through DND.  I don't know specific numbers or percentages, but I know a large part of their income came from fundraising (working bingos and casinos for instance).  Some sort of convoluted scheme where the Parents...

    Ontario Taxes and Premiums

Hmm, I think you are painting too bleak a picture.  I'll agree with your basic premise, tax rates are too high, but the information I've got says that Ontario has a provincial tax rate of 9.15% for the range you're talking about (roughly, from $32828 to $65721).

    Greetings, couple of things.

You're correct, I'm sorry.  I was oversimplifying.  What I was trying to make clear was that a 1 or 2 year diploma does not meet the requirements, and in doing so I neglected to take 3 year undergraduate degree programs into account.  But yes, I should have stated it differently.

    Greetings, couple of things.

There are many Officer trades ranging anywhere from Infantry Officer to Nursing Officer.  Check the CF Recruiting website for a list, and maybe give all the trades (Officer and NCM) a quick once-over before going to the recruiting centre.  To become an officer, basically you need a 4-year...

    Thank you

Hey dude, congratulations.  I can second the fact that this website kept me sane during my wait, as well.  With a few others here going for the same job(s) as I was, the sharing of information and ability to get a another point of view on some issues helped keep me together.  Well, I would've...

    need some help

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/020203/02020302_e.html Thats about all I can suggest.  You have to fax/mail in a request, and they'll send you photocopies.  You'll need proof of relationship and proof of death.  I just used a copy of my Grandpa's newspaper obituary.  Being that your...

Summery of what I could expect?

Unforunately, there isn't a signing bonus listed for MP Officers currently.  As http://www.forces.gc.ca/dgcb/cbi/engraph/home_e.asp?sidesection=6&Section=205.525&sidecat=22&Chapter=205#205.525 lists, the signing bonuses are for understrength occupations.  Obviously MP Officer isn't listed in...

Am I lucky or am I just thinking wishfull thoughts?

I had to fill out an allergy form, because I had mentioned that I had previously suffered from seasonal allergies.  Nothing major, but it also didn't hold up my file for any period of time.  I did the medical on February 11, had the form back to the medic a couple days later, and the completed...

Summery of what I could expect?

Casing is right, I should have clarified.  My point though, was that there seems to be some confusion as to what the "mandatory requirement" is... In my case, although there is a 9-year basic engagment, they have a 4-year minimum in there as well.  I was trying to simply illustrate that although...

    "Air Show" Gallery Proposal

Thats an air show I'd like to check out some day.  My cousin was supposed to be there, so I'll have to ask him how it was. The coolest thing I've ever seen at an air show was the B-2B that did a flypast at Saskatoon last year.  Crazy awesome.  That thing doesn't look like it belongs in the air.

Summery of what I could expect?

As an officer, you sign an initial 9-year basic engagement.  I've been wondering the same thing (not so much now, but moreso when I first looked into the CF), and the general consensus that I've heard (from recruiting centres, people on the internet, and elsehwere) is that you can put in for a...

    Montreal

I don't know about elsewhere, but the strip clubs here don't charge a cover, but the deal is you have to always have a drink you're working on.  Or you're out.  So if they jack up the prices, obviously its to their advantage.

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

Thats something you'll have to decide for yourself.  Be sure to talk to recruiters too.  There are pro's and con's to either choice, so you have to figure out whats best for you. There are a lot of other great trades in the CF that you might excel at, so don't rule out the possibility of...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

Right, which is why I said from the CF's point of view.  I can see how when they have a massive shortage of people, the DEO option is more appealing to them, so they probably rely on it more. From the applicants perspective, there is no difference in timeline.  Also, just to clarify,  I'm...

Here's one:  http://army.ca/forums/threads/1596.0.html Here's the other one, just for shits and giggles.  It doesn't help though, because I just directed him to the the first one.  http://army.ca/forums/threads/2090.0.html

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

For what its worth, a couple guys posted on here that they were the only ones to pass aircrew selection, got offers for RMC, but those offers were for other trades.  From the CF's point of view, it takes 7 (I think?) years for an RMC applicant to get his/her wings, but 2 or 3 for a DEO...

    Best Coffee Joints

In Saskatoon, every Tim's I tried accepts Debit.  They don't accept Visa, for obvious reasons (the higher surcharge), but I've never even been given a second look with Debit.  I've been to at least three or four different locations in the last couple weeks, and every one of them accepted it...

Competition List Questions (formally called Merit List) [MERGED]

I'll be starting IAP/BOTP (Basic Officer Training) on September 13, as will several other people on here.  Only the ROTP Officer Cadets will be going back to University, and us soon-to-be DEO Officer Cadets will start.  I believe that they run both BMQ and IAP/BOTP at the same times.  People...

    Best Coffee Joints

I can't speak for the pastries, but last week when I stopped in for my usual (see above), the muffin looked a fair bit smaller than usual.  I don't know, maybe it wasn't smaller, but my immediate perception was that it was.
