    Post election talk here....

Nobody has mentioned that David Pratt was defeated yet.  I'm curious to see who the new minister of national defence will be.  It'll be a while before we find out, but I wonder.

I voted on June 11.  I feel like I'm missing out on something today.

    The Great Gun Control Debate

Good enough, I suppose you did provide a perfectly good disclaimer.  My bad. Sure... but what does that achieve?  Why bother tracking firearms?  It always traces back to preventing crime.  Even as a tool for law enforcement, there's the underlying principle that better law enforcement will...

Cadets vs Boy Scouts (role, "child soldiers", etc.)

Why do people on internet forums always insist on pulling out the freedom of speech card?  This forum offers no freedom of speech other than that which Mike Bobbit allows.  He does a very good job of allowing it, but if he and the moderators under his ultimate command don't want you to say...

    Infantry Officer P. Eng Eligibility

I actually sent some questions in regarding military occupations and P.Eng into APEGGA.  The questions worked their way up to the director of registration's office, at which point somebody contacted me and asked for my phone number to talk to me directly.  I provided it (a couple of times), and...

    The Great Gun Control Debate

Well, thats speculation.  I'm going to guess that you've never met the guy, aren't a psychiatrist, and are only basing your judgement on this single article.  Nobody here can guess what the guys real intentions were.  Ok, what is its purpose?  About the only thing I can come up with is that if...

    Soon to be LdSH

I can't speak for the military side of things, but I will echo Allan's general sentiments about Edmonton.  I went to University in Edmonton, and I very much like the city.  I miss it as well.

    Post-training living arrangements

Hey, I was just thinking about the firearms thing last night, thanks for answering my unasked question.  I was talking to some friends of mine, and wondered if it was possible to own a handgun, assuming I get a restricted license and whatnot.

    I heard from DEO boards!

Well, it looks like I'm going to be a Signal Officer after all. They phoned today, told me I had an offer, and obviously I accepted immediately.  The lady I talked to (a civilian clerk of some sort, but I've long since given up on trying to understand what goes on at the CFRC) told me I'd be...

    I heard from DEO boards!

Actually, I tried that.  Somehow in the last couple of weeks I got shifted to another interviewing officer (I had originally spoke with a Captain, and the Lt. (N) wanted to talk with me when I went in there).  Today, while trying to call her, this Corporal was handling the call, for whatever...

Enhanced Reliability Check (ERC) - Merged

Yeah exactly, its one way they have of checking your reliability.  If you can't be responsible enough to manage your own finances and be reliable with that, they take it as an indicator of negative reliability.  I believe everybody has to go through this, not just most people. Bobby147: Yeah...

    I heard from DEO boards!

Ok, I'm not sure what to think.  I just got off the phone with the recruiting centre, and I recieved the same bad news as Tyrnagog.  I've been moved from 1st to 6th on 'the waiting list'.  But the corporal (while checking with the Lt. (N), who I assume was standing right next to him)  I...

    I heard from DEO boards!

I'm an electrical engineer, yes, but I didn't apply for EME.  I almost went with 1) CELE, 2) SIG O, 3) EME (In fact, it was that way... until I went in a week after my interview to change it), but I decided that 1) CELE, 2) AERE, 3) SIG O was more to my liking.  EME sounded good, but according...

Uh oh, I don't like the sounds of that.  Looks like I'll be making a phone call first thing tomorrow morning.

    I heard from DEO boards!

You said you qualify for the signing bonus, but aren't those qualifications basically met as long as you're accepted?  Don't get me wrong, I'm not doing this for the bonus, its just icing on the cake.  It just happens to be really, really sweet icing.  Are there other factors at play? Also...

    I heard from DEO boards!

Yeah, I'm not expecting anything for it, I'm just more curious than anything.  The recruiters told me of my performance for my other two choices, but nothing about CELE.  Perhaps there weren't any positions, or so few so as to not even bother mentioning it.
