I love six degrees of seperation!
Of course this map is more or less meaningless as it is easy to draw connections between people and groups regardless of the fact that those connections may not exist.
Heres one:
My godfather's niece is Carol Browner (whom i've met on several occasions)...
In Feb of 93 I was in grade five, mhaving just turned 11.
When this thread started I was in the last weeks of high school (probably just starting exams).
God that seems like a long time ago.
A friend of mine who is a cop in Toronto was telling me about a radio exchange he heard a few weeks ago.
Soemone called 911 to say that police were beating an individual in front of their apartment, so the call goes out for a supervisor to go the scene. Two seconds later the officers involved...
Speaking of horses, I got a good laugh last Saturday when I saw a guy driving a high end BMW get pulled over by a cop on a horse and get a ticket of some kind. This happened at the corner of Front and Bay. It was great, there were tourists taking photos of the event. Though in a way I did...
Forced as in an individual may feel that there is no other alternative. It doesn't really matter if you or I see an alternative, if they don't then they may feel forced. I was not suggesting that the state was actively forcing them into crime for some sinister purpose.
It's not reasonable...
Well first of all, I never really said it was societies fault that they're in prison. And from what the story said, it sounded like they gave him the wood for reasons other than educational. Again, I don't agree with that.
As for the money, I'm sure they could save money by not buying TVs...
Well some of you may misunderstand what I mean. I personally don't believe that Prison should be a cake walk; they shouldn't be able to watch TV, movies, play pool or the like. The food shouldn't be good, it should be nutritionally adequate (I'm thinking some form of paste that has all the...
Well times are changing there Bruce. The number of unskilled jobs that actually pay a liveable wage drying up quickly. Unless you be live making 8 dollars an hour as a walmart greeter provides a liveable income?
Your fear mongering doesn't really help your point. I would personally love it...
While I may not agree with some of the treatment these offenders are receiving, I do find myself wondering how you guys seriously expect certain offenders to successfully re intergrate into society once their prison term is up? Unless of course you're advocating that we just throw away the key...
The likelihood that a patient's apartment is on the ground floor of their building is inversely proportional to their weight.
Same rule applies to buildings with working elevators.
I'm starting a paramedic program in the fall and all the schools I went to mentioned that they're upping their...
Living in Toronto (and living downtown right by 51 division) I haven't seen too many foot patrol officers. When I do it's usually during the big events in the summer such as the Caribana weekend where every corner downtown has a couple cops walking around - I've noticed in past years that over...
I am so conflicted on this. Part of me wants to say that while his crime was barbaric, it shouldn't be used as an excuse for the state and society as a whole to degrade themselves by using an uncivilized punishment.
While the rest of me thinks the guy is getting off WAY too easily.
found this video of a bird being sucked into the engine of a commercial plane (can't tell what type), complete with a recording of the radio communication between the pilot and ATC.

sorry for reviving a dead thread, but I figured it would be better...
I don't disagree with you about the educational aspect Kids should be taught about weapons and what to do if they find them. I just don't think that Johny Boy would be the best instructor for that. Which is another reason why the teacher would be right in saying no to the parents of Johny if...
The school board would most likely fire the teacher if they allowed a student to bring a weapon (even an inert one) to school. Most school boards now have strict zero tolerance policies about weapons, the same thing would most likely apply if the kid wanted to bring his plastic glock to school.
I'm sorry, I could just be a silly liberal but how exactly can any rational adult think that the teacher overreacted in this case? The child could have mistakenly brought in a live grenade. How the do you expect the child to know that it was inert? how do you expect the teacher to know it was...
I love how nothing is every truly lost on the internet. I remember having this list emailed me to way back when I first started coming online more than a decade ago (and it probably was circulating for a long time before that too!)
Oh and UBoat 120 was not lost due to a toilet accident, she...
