Extended period of service after 3b release

Something that may be helpful is to find out what is required in your unit that your skill base is suited for and sell yourself for that.  Realize that can't sell yourself for your actual job, because your category now says you are not fit for it. Without knowing your trade, rank and skillets...

Extended period of service after 3b release

It is entirely possible, but may be difficult depending on your rank and your branches manning levels and requirements.  Your RSM and Career Manager are the ones that know that, and even if they did have room for you, it is still up to your CO to accept risk and ensure there is gainful...

    LAV 6.0

No doubt it is bad design, probably more so a failed experiment.  It would be tough to site and if you are going to sacrifice crew protection, you might as well go towed and light.

    LAV 6.0

I'll play devil's advocate.  If it was used in the tank destroyer role i.e. static and concealed, it could do a hell of a job.  Being relatively light and wheeled also gives it better operational and strategic mobility. When taken out of it's role and put into close combat, firing while moving...

    Future Armour

I believe we have and continue to investigate composites, with weight reduction being a large factor. The robotic turret makes sense for crew protection.  As impracticable as it may be now. it is the inevitable future.

Interesting.  Would like to see some performance stats, compared to conventional.

Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle - RG-31, LAV Coyote, and (partial) G-Wagon Replacement

There is a use for TAPVs in an LIB.  Just not as a prime mover.  From my hearsay, 5 Bde is always willing to experiment and give things a shot.

Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle - RG-31, LAV Coyote, and (partial) G-Wagon Replacement

TAPV, although considered a light vehicle, doesn't translate to a LIB IMO. Manning the vehicle, plus the minimal troop and equipment capacity makes it poor choice for a LIB.  They would probably rather large capacity trucks or helos.  And short of that, they would probably rather walk, with...

    Stop the Army’s Dangerous Game

I've always subscribed to the thinking that you can never be right.  It is better to not be wrong so much that you can't adapt.  There is a quote that covers this, but I can't find it or remember who said it (some Sir).  The trying not to be wrong and our limited budget has probably led us...

Airfield defence role for PRes? (From: "Re-Royalization")

I don't agree with that.  The Res have ample PYs.  What we don't have is the money to employ them.  I do agree that a shooter could be trained pretty easily (any open source stats on Mujahideen successes?).  Also, shooting lumbering heavy helicopters may not be a good comparison for our...

Airfield defence role for PRes? (From: "Re-Royalization")

I don't think anyone is denying the requirement for an AD capability. The bigger question is where does it stack up against the 200+ other projects that are competing for the same money... long range ground to ground missiles would also fall into this quagmire. From what I understand the Arty...

Precision and Accuracy in the call for fire

For the naysayers that believe that the Arty is just an area weapon and that our double checks and "minuscule" calculations are a waste of time or not necessary, tell that to these guys. Of course the naysayers will chalk it up as a bad target location and dismiss it, but for those of us who...

Canada needs US permission to make 250 LAV III monuments

We could build them out of cardboard.  Maybe stone?  Do a price check on stone replicas. Don't fret.  Our bean counters have the finances well under control.

    The education bubble

I would simplify the crap out this and ask one question.  What do you spend your time thinking about each day? If the answer is math facts, sciences and writing, you'll probably do pretty well on an IQ test.  If it is anything other than that, probably not. But an IQ test alone is somewhat one...
