Name This Photo!!! - The AFV Recognition Thread

Probably an easier one for the older fellas and Old Sweat, you are not allowed to answer.  There are a few others that shouldn't answer too (you know who you are). If you know it, give the other guys a chance. Hint for hardcore newbs, it's Canadian.

    The education bubble

Here you go, free as it gets. Probably costs a significant amount of time and the piece of paper saying you graduated will probably cost you too.  ;D "Lecture 1 | Modern Physics: Classical Mechanics" - Leonard Susskind (Stanford).  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyX8kQ-JzHI

Role of Officer vs job of NCM [Merged]

In his defence, he did say "easier" and that is certainly relative to what a person might consider easy.  As an O, you will not spend as much time time humping ammo and weapons or building field defences, but conversely you will spend a hell of a lot more time reading, formulating and writing...

Role of Officer vs job of NCM [Merged]

Everything here so far is what you need to hear, and as you said, what you wanted to hear. Just speaking of Jnr O training, that is mostly segregated from NCM training, the training has the same foundations, maybe more so in the Arty than any other trade.  It is the actions or "verb" you are...

    The education bubble

While I agree with you wholeheartedly, we will inevitably be dealing with this in the CAF also, probably a lot already. The introduction of new techy type equipment into our inventory has made or is making us change the way we do things; much to many people's dismay. Just speaking on education...

    The education bubble

I'm not surprised by this either. Knowing how to press buttons with software and apps that are specifically designed to make things easier is hardly tech savvy, nor is it multitasking. The only tech savvy persons are the ones designing the software (and even that is getting easier), not the ones...

How many LG-1s are in service with the reserves? And where?

I would think that those are 4 pretty big reasons for it.

How many LG-1s are in service with the reserves? And where?

The 6.0 is capable of being quite a lot heavier than the original LAV III/MMEV, about 3x heavier, so it would seem that the potential for flipping could be resolved. I don't see going the 105 route anyway, and I would not mix 120 and 105, no matter what configuration. The 120 makes a lot of...

I bought the MilTerms and MilQuotes apps

Perhaps there should be another way to spend mil points.  I have few, and other than proof that I have been active, I have no use for them. I guess I am inadvertently asking to be involved in creating ideas for mil points.

Light Support Weapons & Infantry Automatic Rifles

I think they've got it down to <1% now, but anything more than 0 is a high rate in some people's minds. Using the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vF-WvIL82Q as a reference, they fired 40 missiles each for a total of 160.  If they were cluster munitions with about 200 bomblets in them...

Plotters to calculators to computers, when did it happen?

Not from experience, but I would make a reasonable guess that the 41C was removed for firing data, but remained for surveying use. I believe this to be true. The more computers think for you, the less you think for yourself (unless you designed the computer).  Kind of comical and comparable...

    Mortars: 51 mm, 60 mm, 81 mm, 120 mm & more

You can also dial a range in if you are forced to estimate or pick it from a map.  I have heard anecdotal evidence that they are quite accurate, assuming you have the correct range.

What are you listening to/fav type of music

Anyone who might like aggressive blues rock will certainly like this. A fair change since their early psychedelic metal years.  Still kicks *** nonetheless. Clutch - "Electric Worry" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx6FV2qR2TY

An Arctic Army without Arctic Boots, only in Canada (From: Brown Boots)

You never mentioned where he was doing his training i.e. prairie winters are too cold for regular boots. If he is in a moderate climate, regular boots should be fine, but I would consider goretex socks as well. I'll echo the comments about not having the right kit issued.  Complete crap, and...

    The Manly Thread

Wow, this thread has been dead for a while.  Time to revive. In an extreme test of manhood, I took my car past the E on the gas gauge.  There was actual daylight between the pointer and the line.  What makes this even more extraordinary, is that I did it with my Wife in the car!
