US Army looking to build air-droppable armoured vehicle (ULCV project)

Carry 9 (I will assume adults with bullets and water) and weigh less than a standard pick up truck; and be armoured?

Plotters to calculators to computers, when did it happen?

Do not take Fire D for granted.  Practice it until you are blue in the face.  Get use to both the Observer's and Gun sequence.  The more comfortable you are with that the more natural everything else will come.  You will be expected to take orders from the OP, calculate data, supervise your crew...

US Army may take away Apache helos from state Nat'l Guard forces

We too, here in Canada seem to go through a similar process (although downsized).  Good or bad, communities no doubt have a strong grip on the past.  As obvious as it may seem that recognizing the past is a good thing, we can only hold on to so much before having to let go of something. Do...

A New 'Smart Rifle' Decides When To Shoot And Rarely Misses

My argument would be that this crosses the "acceptable" computer human interaction threshold.  Good shots don't need it, and weak shots don't know what they should do with it. I can't even begin to start a list of the smoke and mirrors involved with presenting the benefits of this.  The...

US Army may take away Apache helos from state Nat'l Guard forces

That seems counterprodictive to me.  While I understand the need to protect yourself (district), I cannot see it as a logical solution.  It very much seems to be a result of every man (district) for themelves, a destructive and partisan approach.  The even more sad thing is that is if any...

    C3 Grounding

If you want to go light, go ultra light.  105mm Hawkeye - http://www.mandusgroup.ca/artillery_solutions/hawkeye_105mm.php Notice thoughout the video how the barrel and breech are thrown forward prior to firing to counteract the recoil.  A very cool concept, but this seems to be a very large...

    PERs : All issues questions...2003-2019

I still can't get past this bullet thing.  My good god, I didn't think it would/should be such as task.  I guess it's an easy way to fill up a block for someone who hasn't done anything.  I've seen more time spent organizing a BBQ than we are spending writing out a person's yearlong work. ...

    PERs : All issues questions...2003-2019

From my understanding, opting out is much the same as tapping out.  You are essentially recognizing that you will not or do not desire to go any higher in rank, and are relieving the CoC of the burden of doing your PER.  I do agree with this, as this should reduce a tonne of unnecessary...

Plotters to calculators to computers, when did it happen?

I've always thought a well machined plotter board was necessary, vice the ones we make ourselves out of recycled plywood and plexiglass.  I would normally choose a computer first, but in those austere places where power is scarce, having these as a back up is a must. As mentioned before, this...

Plotters to calculators to computers, when did it happen?

How did this thread get so far without mentioning the Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC).  The first ballistic computer, even before OS's and FJAG's time.  Made in 1946 by the US Army. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ENIAC I think we're gonna need a bigger CP.

    M109 Shredding

I thought the RGs were a gift to the ANA? No matter, they will be unfixable eventually anyway.

    M109 Shredding

We did do a last round fired ceremony,  but not for every gun. Also, to finish my response to Dangerboy's questions earlier, all barrels (155 and 105) have a cipher.  Not mortars though. If we buy a 120 there will be much confusion!!!  ???

    M109 Shredding

It is an engraving, and it usually located ~ 2-3 ft from the breach end of the barrel.

    M109 Shredding

This is borderline blasphemous.  I guess that the one savior is that these guns did not perform an act of war or save someone's life. While I am not a traditionalist, I can't help but get bothered by the pics.  I very well may have done a few (training) missions in that gun. I would have...

    Tablets

Tablets are very easy to get, but at a $$$.  Long term maintenance and sustainment plans aren't cheap.  This is why I mention it as the solution for growth and if you intend on doing more than reading pdfs.  For ranges, pdfs will no doubt suffice.  Anyone who recommends hard copies needs to come...

    Tablets

Hard copies are junk.  Far too many pages, can't quick search keywords, likely always out of date unless you dedicate a person to reread and pull and insert pages on a daily basis. Also, the intent of AEL and other Sharepoint sites is to standardize pubs so that everyone is reading the same...

    Status of American Field Artillery

I think a large and potentially dangerous assumption that has been made by the Comds is that technology and automation will expedite future training and the ability to reintroduce the capability;  I do not subscribe to that.  Another assumption is that technology makes processes simpler; I do...
