    Replacing the Subs

I'm told by Submariners that it is technically no longer a periscope - as its all EO/IO digital imaging these days, and no glass and mirrors.

    The War in Ukraine

With what? Despite the thousand of claims to the contrary Europe is a mess as far as their Defense Industry goes. Due to the low demand for items there was no significant supply chain, and Europe was quite happy at the beginning to let the US supply equipment and munitions. While European...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Also lets remember about the Iltis and LSVW (probably a lot more but these are fairly clear examples). Both of those vehicles was acquired by the CAF for Political reasons outside of what the requirements called for. They where both built in Canada in a small run (lets face it Canada is not...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Actually it is. Unless you have plentiful CCA’s to play expendable crewman for your manned craft, the low observable signature is exceptionally important. I mentioned above that isn’t not just RCS, there are a variety of other low observable aspects to the designs that dramatically increase...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Thank you for that, not being an air guy, I wasn’t sure how me saying something similar would go over. I would also like to add for others, that there are other low visibility aspects of the F-35 and F-22 designs than just radar cross section, that help against other threats. Some are...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Canada doesn’t buy enough fighter aircraft to support any sort of industry for that. Better uses of Canadian tax dollars would be on specific national security infrastructure; Space based Navigation, Communications and Imagery. National Munitions Supply (Production, Storage etc) Play to...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

The US has been in the flying of stealth aircraft business for more than four decades. LocMart brought the F 117A to the USAF in operational squadrons in the early 80's. Northrop Grumman's B2 went into service in 1997. LocMart brought the F-22 Raptor to the USAF in 2005 -- two decades...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Unfortunately the question that remains to be answered is if the GoC cares about capabilities, or just spending monies. Historically capabilities have taken a back seat.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

So the F-35 can get 30:1 kills against it? Generationally it is not much beyond a CF-18. It isn’t a Gen5 Airframe and the term 4.5 is rather murky given it’s much closer to 4.

    Continental Defence Corvette

No but it is being used to great affect. RCN 2035 is looking shaky depending upon what can get done - you may be zero subs, 1 River, 2 JSS and the AOPs. You need at least 12 Rivers, and more JSS.

Canada should join the (nuclear) big leagues

One of the things that isn’t Presidential authority. There a zero chance of a joint Congress accepting that, as at least the Senate is sober enough to know what that leads to.

    Political impacts of Ukraine war

Tomahawks ;) Seriously nothing is stopping any nation from sending their Tomahawks to Ukraine without American approval, sure America could get mad, but at the end of the day it’s not like the Tomahawk can’t be replicated by MBDA or other European nations. It’s just been convenient to buy...

Canada should join the (nuclear) big leagues

I think you miss the trillions of dollars put into nuclear non proliferation by many countries. Both in forms of Intelligence and Black Side wet work. Israel would make a radioactive cloud of any actual acquisition/storage near them. They will do that regardless of what anyone else...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

That isn’t in doubt. What can be legitimately questioned is if there is the requisite knowledge and skill for specific tasks. I can also tell you from experience that gifted machinists and programmers don’t always transfer industries well.

Canada should join the (nuclear) big leagues

I doubt Pakistan wants to suffer a nuclear accident. Because make no mistake there would be actions taken to cause that and derail amy transfers as well to cast shade on the Pak Nuke Program as a whole.

https://www.twz.com/air/impact-of-selling-f-35s-to-saudi-arabia-on-the-region-and-beyond While not specifically a Canadian issue. It is interesting in the larger scheme of what aircraft you get.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

The problem being if RTX, LocMart and/or other world leading companies wash their hands of Canada, you end up with some rather pathetic choices in some areas. Understandable, frankly Trump was never a real Republican, and I don’t think the MAGA crowd are smart enough to understand just how...
