    Folding Pockets Knives in BMQ?

I would disagree completely with what SOF said.  All good soldiers/sailors carry knives.  Usually in the form of a Gerber Multi-tool (they are issued when you get to your unit).  Just leave the "Rambo" knives at home.  A good para knife, Gerber, or Swiss Army will serve all your needs. ...

    IAP May 28th - 3 Aug 07

I did my IAP two summers ago, and BOTP last summer.  For our IAP they took the total number of candidates and split us in to two platoons based solely on last name (first half of the alphabet in one platoon, second half on the other).  This meant that the UTP's were split, but not necessarily...

    A bit about me

From my personal experience, each time I've been posted somewhere, they usually only have given between 4-6 weeks.  This is by no way a rule though.  Some people have less time, others more.  Good luck, and keep up with the running!  For those of us over 200lbs the shuttle run (beep test) just...

    Pay FY 07/08

On the note of our raises being tied directly to what PSAC gets - remember when they go on strike to egg them on to stay out longer and hold out for more... ;D

    Take The Test

66% baby!  Since the only person to ever buy me Old Spice was my mother, I will consider this low score a compliment.  If media advertising has told me anything, it's that Axe will get you the girls.  Old Spice just gives you old man smell.

    Considering VR - full details

Just a quick comment on when you should decided to VR.  Currently you are employed and being paid for your job.  Wouldn't it make sense for you and your family for you to keep your income until you apply and actually get accepted to a civilian police service? I understand and appreciate that...

    Terrorist Catch and Release Joke

US Navy releases an Al-Qaeda Terrorist! The US Navy today announced that it has released a senior Al-Qaeda terrorist after questioning him extensively for 27 days while being held prisoner aboard a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea. In a humanitarian gesture, the terrorist was given $50 ...

    Hey guys...a couple of Q's..

I don't know if the East coast is the same, but with the exception of slipping and berthing the ship (along with action stations, fires, etc..) in warm climates we were allowed to wear our own sandles (like Tiva's or Nike ACGs). Those boots DO suck in hot temps.

ROTP going to IAP This summer

From what I understand week 0 was used as a refresher.  Getting back into doing SMESC format, re-learning how to build bipods/tripods, etc....  This is just what I've heard though and is not fact.

    Current/Past Officer Cadets

Class of 2009 attending UVic for a BA in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy (applied ethics).  Upon graduation, I'll be the only person who has this degree whose job doesn't entail the phrase..."do you want fries with  that?" Heading into the world of MPO upon graduation, and actually...

ROTP going to IAP This summer

Just a quick note ref the BOTP course length.  St. Jean seems to have dropped the week 0 from the course.  This includes those attending civi U on ROTP, UTPNCM and the like.  The BOTP serials starting 1 May that are mainly comprised of UTP's and ROTP's ends on 2 June.

    ROTP pay after graduation.

I am by no means an authority on this, but I would suggest that the reason that an ROTP receives a higher pay is because they have been in the military for "x" number of years while completing their education.  As such, they have completed a certain degree of training, with some summers doing...

    Osama in Afghanistan

Iran claims test of fastest underwater missile

According to good ol' Janes they have one Submarine (possibly two others), but little else is known about that (from open source).  They basically came on the scene around 2004 and are suspected of being from North Korean origin.  If their new torp is like the Shkval and it is wire guided, so...

    Education Options

Just to clarify one point and to add another.  Before being accepted into university I had to finish high school.  I did this through correspondance while deployed on ship in the Persian Gulf.  Back in '99, it was before the days of regular internet etc and I had all my assignments sent home...

    Education Options

If educating yourself is ones goal (and perhaps trying to pursue a commission in the case of an NCM), then you face the challenges.  People are starting to talk about how it's hard to take university courses while working full-time in the CF or while deployed.  Sure it's hard, but where there is...

The Shaving Superthread- All You Want and More....

This may sound crazy, but honestly it works!  After you shave, use a bit of baby powder.  It stops the razor burn and gets rid of the pimples, and ingrown hairs.  GO Navy!

    Education Options

Wookilar provided you with a great amount of information.  The only thing I would add, is that the UTPNCM (the CF subsidizing your education full-time) is never a guarantee for you.  For those of us in the CF, we know this, but you may not.  It is a very competative program as one might expect...
