MP Educational Requirements, comments, questions and rants.

Interestingly enough, you state that most PF grads become security guards....which is exactly what you said you plan to do in the next year.  Granted your coworkers won't be able to put on their resume such prestige as a part time university student like yourself....but hey.....at least they...

Steiner's Story, split from Re: General Questions regarding your application

It also says firefighter......my 6 years in the trade.....I don't know the slightest thing about fighting fires.....nor do I know anything about computers....so computer operator really isn't that similar either.

Steiner's Story, split from Re: General Questions regarding your application

LAV's aren't tracked....so your comparison is incorrect. Further, driving a bulldozer at like 15km/h is not like driving an armoured vehicle at 60 cross country.  Coupled with the fact that HEO teaches nothing of reading the ground for tactical advantages etc, and has absolutely nothing to do...

Steiner's Story, split from Re: General Questions regarding your application

Being that you have no idea what others are bringing to the table....saying you are more qualified than 80% of applicants is a pretty broad statement. Hate to burst your bubble...but at least for the Armoured Corps.....your HEO is of absolutely no bearing or use.

"MP's or Provost - An Idea on Roles" and "Replace base MP with RCMP"

If you look at case law these days, courts are more and more granting acquittals, withdrawing charges, and finding offenders not guilty for assault peace officer because their lawyer was able to provide reasonable doubt that the offender could identify the officer as a peace officer.  It's is...

"MP's or Provost - An Idea on Roles" and "Replace base MP with RCMP"

I highly doubt the government will go for it.  Whetherthe RCMP or CF polices the CFB's ultimately the government pays for it.  I can't see them paying an RCMP Constable 80k a year plus overtime when they can pay a Cpl 65k/yr with no OT. Economics will win

"MP's or Provost - An Idea on Roles" and "Replace base MP with RCMP"

If the MP's were to give up policing roles on CFB's I would imagine policing would be taken over by the closest police service.  I highly doubt the RCMP would create det's at CFB's in Ontario just to police bases.  You would, in my opinion, see the OPP Upper Ottawa Valley take over Pet...

    My situation before applying.

The recruiter probably wasn't far off from the truth.  The reality these days is there are WAY more applicants to the CF than positions available.  Regardless of what you are applying for you are probably up against 10 other equally qualified people who don't have a criminal record......

    Pilot/Engineer Officer Dilemma

One thing to keep in mind is 6 years down the road you will be making good money.  I don't know your family situation, but when you are in your 30's, leaving the CF and at best collecting EI while you wait for who knows how long to get a job offer (that may never come) to rejoin the CF is not...

    Preparing for army life

Psychologically prepare yourself to be treated like a child. Don't assume I'm saying this in a sarcastic or negative tone.  The fact is as a Pte/Cpl you will experience max supervision 95% of the time you're at work.  If you accept it for what it is and understand that it's done for a...

Reserve MP in Air vs Navy vs Army

I highly doubt they would allow you to take up a spot on an MPAC AND and MPOAC edit....forgot this thread was about reserves.....disregard

    Infantry and post secondary

Where did you see me say that?  He asked what would give his application a leg up....any post secondary is better than no post secondary.  How about you don't put words in my mouth? Thanks and merry xmas

    Infantry and post secondary

A post secondary degree or diploma in basket weaving would be looked upon favourably. Take a course that will open doors for you in th future because the reality is this: most people that join the combat arms do not remain in for their entire career.  Odds are you will either be hurt and forced...

    Infantry and post secondary

While I have defended police foundations as I have a diploma (it's not a degree) in police foundations. I do agree with Brihard in a sense.  I do personally believe that it's useful in that any post secondary is better than none. That said....if you are joining the CF you won't need a police...

    Question about joining the forces

You go up incentives every year.  Say you join jan 1 2013 on jan 1 2014 you would be a p2 etc. As for pmq prices...it varies per base.  I've seen them anywhere from 500-1000 a month

    Question about joining the forces

Having kids does not get you any extra pay or allowances. As for how long it takes to rank up....on average it's about 4 years to get promoted to Cpl.

Relevance and Usefullness of Police Foundations?

The mps are just as competitive to get into as civvie police.  I don't know why people have this notion that the mps are somehow easier to get on with. Cold hard facts are this.....the mps for this fiscal year had 8 spots for external hires and received over 900 applications.

Relevance and Usefullness of Police Foundations?

I have police foundations and got hired.  I don't regret taking it at all.  I'm not the university type as I don't place a lot of importance on reading books and coming up with theories.  Being more of a hands on kind of person, I chose the college route.  Policing was something I was very...

    How Long Did You Wait?

Pointless question to ask.....everyone is very different. Case in point, I applied on a Friday, interview/medical on Tuesday, sworn in on Thursday and left for BMQ on Sat. Your application will take as long as it takes.  That sucks to hear, I know, but unfourtunately these days it's reality.
