Everyone is different. Pick a trade that you have an interest in. They each have advantages and disadvantages. Regardless, if you are actually going to use some random person's opinion of a trade as a basis for joining the military, then you should stop and rethink your plans.

Keep in mind that they will accept any degree for combat arms. You may not wish to pursue a 4 year degree in something that is much less useful than say engineering if your plans with the army fall through.

I don't think we should forget the team of Ph.D's who help a PM or President make their decisions. In the end I believe for the most part that the big wigs do not do much independent research on their own, instead they are led to decisions based on options other people provide them.  :2c:
