Royal Canadian Air Force headed to mission in Africa ‘very soon’: top general

Time spent on recce is never time wasted. I appreciate the MND taking the time to personally (when was the last time such a thing happened??) hear from the political and military minds during his fact-finding mission. I also appreciate Sen Dallaire there - someone who has had to deal with the...

    VAC Spending/Downsizing (merged)

We had a district office, IIRC, on the ground floor of the Jean Canfield Building (when it opened). When it closed as per the previous government's intent, it was no more - clients were directed to the Service Canada office (in the same building). With the uproar following the closures, a small...

    Paired Limbs

It's not my area of strength, as paired organ or limb cases rarely cross my desk, but I can try to help. At worst, I can ask colleagues. Based on "III. Application" in Chapter 4, the primary condition (loss of, or loss of use of) must have a minimum disability assessment as per the table you've...

    Paired Limbs

Sorry, gryphonnv, just seeing the question now. Did you look at Chapter 4? If this doesn't help or isn't clear, please let me know.

    Internal derangement knee %

Internal derangement of the knee is assessed under Table 17.11 - Loss of Function - Lower Limb - Knee, of Chapter 17 of the 2006 Edition of the VAC Table of Disabilities. The Medical Impairment rating you may be awarded is based on your range of motion, symptoms, and any other clinically...

The navy is broke,' says former sailor over maintenance budget

Well aware, it was just something I noted in the article. I thought it...the word escapes me...disingenuous? In any case, the two paragraphs regarding the clawed-back maintenance budget, and the lapsed/unused budget funds being returned, the two are not necessarily connected  - was it funds...

The navy is broke,' says former sailor over maintenance budget

No disrespect, but unless I failed Basic, a CPO is not a "senior commissioned officer".

Question on information for Training for Reserves

Nathan, you may need to be a little more specific. If you can't, understandable, and feel free to pm me. A training exercise for a Reservist could be a weekend exercise during the training year (September to April/May for Reservists), for which the information is pretty much verbal. It is quite...

Phoenix Pay System - Shit's Horrible

Jesus help us. Shared Services? Almost as dysfunctional and poorly initiated as...well, PSPC.

Phoenix Pay System - Shit's Horrible

Adding to runnormal's points: - hiring of almost entirely new staff to work the Pheonix pay system - the majority of the personnel working in the regional pay systems were let go, and new staff hired in Miramichi. This was partly as compensation for Miramichi losing the gun registry; - failure...

Service Dogs (PTSD, VAC activity, etc.)

Quick update on the service dog pilot project at VAC. Recruitment for the pilot study is complete, and the final report is expected by December 2017. The pilot study focuses on determining how psychiatric service dogs may assist Veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder. The study will...

    Retro Pay & Allow 1Apr 2014 - 1Apr 2017

Anyone have SA on why Canada Post would be a benchmark (see runnormal's comment) for such negotiations? My understanding was CAF pay was tied to or relative to, to some extent, the contracts negotiated with the Federal Public Service, while Canada Post is a Crown corporation.

Divining the right role, capabilities, structure, and Regimental System for Canada's Army Reserves

Apologies to the BGen, but... The 80 SUVs are used by the TBG leadership to drive themselves around. All those fancy Ford Escapes aren't being used by troops to complete their assigned patrol tasks, AFAIK. "Centralizing" green fleet at the TC's does d**k all for units not located within 100+k...

Class Action Suit against NVC & "Govt has no obligation to soldiers"

Picking up on Brihard's last point, and I can't recall if someone else touched on this, but... In most cases, not just the severely disabled veterans, the method of injury which rendered said soldier disabled is a tad different than the typical civilian method of injury.

Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle - RG-31, LAV Coyote, and (partial) G-Wagon Replacement

The Fennek appears to be a decent light recce vehicle (just from reading a few sites, incl http://www.armyrecognition.com/germany_german_army_wheeled_armoured_vehicle_uk/fennek_kmw_4x4_reconnaissance_armoured_vehicle_technical_data_sheet_specifications_pictures_video.html). The Dingo sounds...

Divining the right role, capabilities, structure, and Regimental System for Canada's Army Reserves

It would help if we ever saw our vehs again after a summer in Gagetown and Aldershot...but we've also discussed that point ad nauseum. We train together two-three times a year as it is. But it doesn't solve the issues of lack of vehs, radios, etc. Whoops.

Divining the right role, capabilities, structure, and Regimental System for Canada's Army Reserves

Yep. We can manage on some road moves and short bounds with hand signals or head/brake lights...but we have left a GIB or two on the side of the road once or twice... Another issue is OP's...a little difficult to report back when radios and field phones aren't available, and the cell phones die...
