FWIW Michael was born in 1948 and not a career military officer so I'd imagine his exposure to anything "navy" ended decades ago. Still you've gotta love spin ::)
Michael isn't so much "anti-war" as anti-American, anti-corporations, anti-Conservative, etc. Various members of the Keefer family have been kickin' around campus for years doing the angry leftist routine, but then what self-respecting university doesn't have a few lefties hanging around :D...
I can't seen too much of a problem even if our military was involved. Canadian citizens were being held hostage in Iraq and so it seems pretty reasonable that our military would/should be involved. No doubt the usual suspects will claim that this is "real proof" of something or other. :o
I heard university professor commenting on the low turnouts, at least in comparison to what the organizers expected, of the rallies here in Canada. He suggested that the "problem" is that the protesters don't offerer a "substantial alternative" to what they're protesting. I take that to mean...
GO!
I agree with you In my job I'm allowed x hundred dollars per year for "professional advancement", basically money I can use as I see fit to keep on top of what I need to do my job. Classes, membership fees for my profession, journals, etc. I could certainly see a case made that...
Check out a book, Blood on the Hills, by David Bercuson, for more on Canadians using American weapons in Korea. Lots of good photos/info on the issue, including officers using Yankee stuff.
ciao
SHELLDRAKE!
Exactly! I have nothing against a person expressing an opinion, however I'd like to think they are offering a thoughtful opinion.
I heard a newsclip today where a woman stated that the money being spent "fighting the war" should be spent on "reconstruction"
Reconstructing a...
I'd love to see a breakdown of the so-called "Iraqi Body Count" broken down by who actually did the killing. I'd wager those killed by the so-called "resistance", either in reprisals or as "collateral damage", during attacks on U.S. forces would far outnumber the number actually caused by the...
Hi Guys!
According to StrategyPage.com various NATO countries, including Canada, signed on to have a pool of Antonov AN-124s on lease back in February. Rumour? Fact?
I'd be far more impressed with the protests if they could actually get a few more people to show up. I do understand that 30 people in 20,000 is proof positive that they speak on behalf of what "people believe", however the visuals are all wrong ::)
Then you add what appears to be...
Our local university got out something in the range of 30 people for their anti-war rally; pretty stirring stuff on a campus of about 20,000. I'd hate to see how they define a failure ;D. Apparently a busload of about 50 local "activists" headed to the big rally in Hogtown today. Did I...
48th has a good point. So far it looks like the "usual suspects" quoting the same, typically wrong, pollsters. How many people approached out of the blue and asked for their views on anything complicated have actually given the issue much thought? I really do hope that results of the latest...
If driving an axe into the head of one of our soldiers doesn't justify shooting the guy I'd love to hear what does. Only in Canada would we wallow in such second-guessing of the guys on the ground :threat:
I'm not sure that the above case is indicative of much. Unless we go on the premise that each and every call may be an ERT/Tac Medic operation it'd be just about impossible to have them all staffed appropriately. No doubt 20/20 hindsight would have done things differently.
I think I know the one you mean. FWIW, I believe some of our broadcasters used it as a signoff at the end of the broadcast day. Not much help, but possibly a lead.
I'm always amused when the "we're only there to kiss up to the U.S." line is used. Various of our NATO allies have also determined that Afghanistan actually is a worthy undertaking and so it seems that we've all been suckered ::)
In the event we are "only there to fight the Taliban and Al...
Being in favour of us as "peacekeepers" has a very nice warm and fuzzy feel to it. It really appears to be a means of advocating Canadian involvement (a good thing!) without taking responsibility for the consequences of sending our troops into dangerous situations. From my perspective the...
