Army.ca Meeting & Greeting in Toronto

Really, imagine being able to say "we'll see..." to a Warrant Officer while on your BMQ? Brave lad...  ;D Think of the cool factor when your platoon finds out you're being whisked away for leave by a Snr. NCO!

    Rifle Drill Peeve

Just as a little cadet history...when I was in Sea Cadets back in the 70's, the slope arms movement didn't exist in any cadet formation. We paraded the Lee-Enfield at the shoulder exclusively, and the slope was in no manual of drill that was current then. I served for six years and travelled a...

    Krispy Kreme or Tim Hortons?

I was pleasantly surprised at McD's coffee not that long ago. I've avoided it for years, it was no better the dishwater before  :-X Now, it's actually decent. But Timmie's now, that's a darn fine cuppa joe. Hand's down, my fav. Donuts are okay, but it's the coffee that counts.

    Naval Cadet in Afghanistan?

Mainz, I can't find the post here...but I believe someone said a canforgen went out stating MARS types must have their D levels before being considered for A-stan. I think that means you must have your BWK certificate. I'm surprised you can get your MARS IV next year. I was told it would be...

Looking up John Hill, served with TorScots/RCR/CAR and who knows after that.

I knew your Dad. We weren't buddies but we were in at the same time. Tell him Todd Solomon says hi, maybe he'll remember me. You in the 'stan right now? If so, come home safe.

I can't seem to find it anymore. I think it is an essential function on this site. Was it removed or am I just out to lunch here?

Battlestar Galactica (Beware....Possible SPOILERS! read at your own risk)

I kinda like the idea of finding Earth as a series finale, until then I'm happy with no other humans. Another species might be interesting, long as it's something really original - nothing remotely human(oid). Frankly, the original show killed the original show...major bad, that series was...

    Fort Henry Drill

Well, the Fort Henry Guard tours, or at least they used to. They are quite impressive. Couldn't say for sure about any CF regiment, although the Queen's Own Rifles had a ceremonial/historical guard some time ago if I remember rightly. They date back to about the right time period, 1860's.

Looking up John Hill, served with TorScots/RCR/CAR and who knows after that.

We were good friends back in the late 70's early 80's, lost touch over time. He was Infantry (NCM), first with the Toronto Scots in 77, then went Reg into the RCR, in the mid 80's he was with the Airborne in Pet. He married a woman named Pat from Windsor in 86 (I think). He may have...

Running: Training, Problems, Techniques, Questions, etc

Like gadgets? I use a Garmin Forerunner 200 GPS. It's feature-rich, lots of training tools in it. There's a 100 model that's about 99 bucks, only diff is it's not rechargeable. Find it at the Running Room or similar. You can also use this free route mapping tool:  http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/...

The General Hillier Years. The Merged Superthread

I won't argue the operational experience lies mostly in the hands of the Army right now. I will argue that operational experience is more then closing with the enemy infantry style. Unless, of course, you mean that experience in closing with the enemy "intimately" is a useful skill set for a...

Monthly Pay after deductions - Questions [Merged]

Meridian, HQ9'er, thanks for the info. Every little bit helps. Just been informed I might get my prior pay rate (Cpl.) which will help quite a bit. It's about $175 a week more. (However, I have been on the receiving end of pay foul ups before...so best to be prepared for the lowest pay rate.)...

Proposal: Joint Marcom and CCG crews on CCG ships

I suspect this is an exaggeration of this initiative between the CCG and the RCMP: http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/media/backgrou/2005/hq-ac66a_e.htm I see absolutely zero evidence on the RCMP, DFO, CCG web sites and a google search of any plans to give the CCG armaments as you describe. I didn't...

The General Hillier Years. The Merged Superthread

Not to get too far from the CDS topic - who btw I think is a stupendous leader, and much overdue in the CF world. Hillier has proven he is the right guy for this job. But I have to disagree with the quoted statement. The idea that all services only support the grunt is just not right. All Army...
