This is what NSPS should've been. Own a portion of 1 or 2 yards (each with different specializations, or just generalize) by way the french and DCNS' partnership. Then contract out to any other Canadian yard for work the other two are too busy to take or for one-off classes. The purpose of the...
I agree with you Colin. With the addition that specialized designs and classes be farmed out of Canada with partnerships between our yards and foreign yards. Maintenance of foreign built designs be used as a lesson-building in Canada.
I've been down a rabbit-hole of LPDs and LSDs, how useful...
If we're talking strategy and high-level objectives - is it not possible we've thought of many of the general possibilities and had strategies already in place for them? Only things that could change are capabilities of the actors in these scenarios - making it more about the capabilities of new...
Don't want to derail, but the level of quality and effort put in to these types of RN documentaries make for genuinely quality TV, and also makes you sad we don't do any of this at all.
Really hope that once the first RCN T26 is ready they'll bombard the public with shows like this. I figure...
Just slowly build 12 out of Heddle Yard. Pull the life out of the Kingstons over then next 15 yrs and use them for niche or MCM roles.

Perhaps 10 P-8s and 10 RPAs? New MQ-9 Skyguardian looks like it can take some of the P-8s job now:

I read somewhere that Greece was looking at buying 2 "Tico's" as well.
Perhaps building things other than giant super-capable expensive ships and build some cheaper Type 31ish light-frigates, OPVs or corvettes? Kill the LCS program and build Corvettes for any mission where Russia or China may...
I think AOPS armament has been talked-to-death on here. They're pretty useless in terms of a fightin' anything up there. Anything that's in the arctic that wants a fight would likely be either a Sukhoi or a SSN - so you're buggered with a 25MM. IMHO 25MM seems to be there just to avoid the news...
Is this possible for us to do this so we could operate in the arctic during different seasons and further? Instead of blowing holes too shoot, use them to breathe instead?
Russian submarines to get unguided shells to break ice...
What is the difference between the new mid-life upgrade vs. a UH-1Y conversion? I wonder what the reasoning (beside cost) would've been to not go the way of the USMC. Could've thrown Bell's Mirabel plant more money.
Was this explored when we first bought the Hornets?
I'm not gonna entertain myself with the "one day we'll get a CVN", but would it be worth it to buy more expensive 35Bs, contribute many of them elsewhere and provide the bodies to the QE Class? Would be great if we had our CSC/Type 26 in a UK...
Damen already have a partnership with Heddle out of Hamilton. Can't see a 4th yard being brought into the Strategy though.
Don't know anything about submarine rescue ships, but an extra one within NATO would make our friends happy too.
I'll preface this by saying i'm no Republican, if anything i'm more of an monarchist.
This isn't really anything to do about money... Queen costs us $40Mil/yr (2009 figure) comparatively, and she doesn't even live here (or visit anymore).
Make them the King/Queen of Canada - Canadianize them...
Safe buy = proven design
Proven design = old
New design = unproven
Unproven = high risk
So don't buy something we know works, because its old, and dont buy something new, because its unproven.
We should be taking risks, since when we get the first ship in 2036 the new stuff will be standard...
Does the RCN or DRC have any public projects involving Large UUVs? Interesting article below on USN ORCA project. Launch one of these from the back of an AOPS, use it to deploy mines or patrol a small area then meet back up with its mothership? Let them robots go the extra mile. Definitely safer...
