New name for PTSD could mean less stigma

The problem with OSI is the "operational" part. That gives it a connotation, rightly or wrongly, that a "stress injury" can only happen on operations, which most people, even inside the military, see as meaning overseas. Even though the Swiss Air crash was an "operation" (EVERYTHING we do is an...

    DND/VA HELP PLEASE!

Seen, didn't read high up enough. It's an appeal to the federal court now, but I have no idea how to start that. Given the Ombudsman's report on the Federal Court decision rate, I would certainly look into it. Wook

    DND/VA HELP PLEASE!

Next step is an Appeal Hearing: http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/department/organization/review Another 21 weeks is what they are claiming. After that is Judicial Review to the Federal Court. See the thread about the Ombudsman's report on those. Interesting reading. Wook

Veterans Ombudsman: New Report - Veterans’ Right to Fair Adjudication

Buried in there is the beginning of the problem, just as many of us have said on this board, and in public  ;D in some instances. You can sort out the VRAB, but until the adjudication process itself is sorted out, the VRAB and BPA will continue to be swamped, and therefore will always have the...

Veterans Review and Appeal Bd: pressure to reject claims, spying, junkets (MERGED)

Statistically speaking, if all things had stayed the same, then why the change in ratio in FY's 10-11 and 11-12? For all previous years, Favourable vs. Un sat anywhere from 2:1 to 3:1 (inexact, but close). To paraphrase the famous misquote from Nixon: Lies, damn lies and statistics. Wook

Announcing the Battle Procedure Aide Memoire for iPhone/iPad

Nice app Mike. Now, if I can just convince 9Domestic that grocery shopping would go much simpler if she would use this. Costco is like a battlefield most days  ;D Wook

University Training Plan NCM (UTPNCM) 2005 - 2018 [Merged]

The year I applied ('04, so a bit dated) I had to be accepted by 2 civilian universities, regardless if I wanted to go to RMC (I did lol silly me). I know some people only put down RMC and were told to get accepted to at least 1 university before their application would be processed...

Hi, my name is Wookilar and I am (was?) a UT  ;D I have not swept a floor in 6 years and 51 weeks exactly. jwtg is correct. UT requirements are 4 years (usually Cpl, but not necessarily), QL5 (journeyman-level course or equivalent), 2 full university level courses (4 credits), recommendation...

'It's time to consolidate NDHQ' & 'DND to take-over Nortel Campus' (Merged threads)

Anyone fill me in on the status of this? My google-fu is fairly strong and the only time-lines I've seen mentioned are civvies guessing at a 2015-16 timeframe. Career mangler has indicated that we will be moving to Ottawa next year. I do not know the city/area at all and we are starting to do...

University Training Plan NCM (UTPNCM) 2005 - 2018 [Merged]

The usual annual intake for UT's is about 100 +/- a dozen or so. That is all dependant on ISS numbers. RMC Otter Sqn usual takes 20-25 a year. the messages are late, from what I hear, simply due to the budget fallout. I am looking for an official source as well on the status of the UT program...

The utility of three military colleges, funded undergrad degrees; Officer trg & the need for a degre

For the detour: From one of the few Otter's on here, I can attest that the number of ROTP Cadets at RMC that were willfully exposed to us is quite small and totally voluntary. Now, the number of ROTP/RETP Cadets that were jacked up by various UT's .... well that is a different story (the...

    Looking for 25mm Bagpipers!

Now those are nice. Fired off an email to them, hopefully their pipes are seperate or part of the arms so I can kit bash them for easily. And they sell in single sprues as well, that's excellent. Thanks. Wook

Joining Military with an Electrical Engineering Degree

If R&D is what you want, you might do well to check our the various DRDCs. http://www.drdc-rddc.gc.ca/drdc/en/home-accueil/ We also have the Tech Staff course for Capt/Maj. Takes a few years to be ready for that course, but Lt's have gone on it before...

Different paths for becoming an officer

Yes, there are a few ways to get your Queen's Commission. One way is to start as an ncm and either go: 1) special commissioning (you already have a degree); 2) UTPNCM (the CF sends you to get a degree); 3) commission from the ranks (you might get a degree....later...sometime...maybe), and 4)...
