    Reserve Pilot Tac Hel Req

Only their armies make it work, the Navy, Marines and Air Forces have all officer pilots. We can't make it work for the army because of unification, we simply don't have an army air corps anymore and as a result, all pilots in the CF are officers.

    Reserve Pilot Tac Hel Req

There already is restricted release for pilots. Upon receiving your wings you enter a 7 year period of restricted release. I guess the CF figures that 7 years is a fair return on their investment. While the system may not be perfect, it's not as bad as you make it out to be. Pilots already have...

    Reserve Pilot Tac Hel Req

A Sgt deciding when to employ his 25mm chain gun is based on what the Capt in the next vehicle over has decided. They determine the tactical employment of their vehicle based on what the Platoon commander has decided the vehicle will be used for.  They're not autonomous like aircraft can and...

    Amen to that.

    Reserve Pilot Tac Hel Req

Don't sit there and try to tell me that it's so different between the infantry and the armoured, training wise. Everyone does Phase 2, or CAP or whatever it's called these days and remusters happen all the time. Where's the value in teaching an artillery or armoured officer how to do section...

Can you identify this for me?

I trimmed off the Kiowa stuff into it's own thread, if I missed any, let me or one of the other DS know.

ROTP at Civilian University 2004 - 2018 [Merged]

Post Living Differential, or PLD for short. It varies greatly between locales, Halifax is $374 a month while other places are next to nothing.

    Reserve Pilot Tac Hel Req

I actually think it's better for us to jump platforms. It gives us a much broader view into the workings of the machine as a whole. Even though I may not want to be posted out of MH, it's nice to have the option. If I didn't like the job when I got here, it sure would suck to know that the only...

And Sea Kings, and Hercs, and instructing on the Harvard and Jet Ranger and... Mostly ex-reg force guys, but still reservists nontheless.

If it is written, then it's true. Toronto Star says new attack helicopters.

Weight really doesn't mean squat with respect to speed. A Sea King at max all up weight (20,500lbs) has a never exceed speed (Vne) of 151 knots, a Sea King with 1000 lbs of gas (~17,000lbs) has a never exceed speed of 151 knots. Aerodynamics and power play a larger role in how fast a helo can...

Monthly Pay after deductions - Questions [Merged]

Actually, we're paid semi-monthly, not bi-weekly. The difference is 24 paychecks a year vs the 26 paychecks that biweekly yields.

    CH-148 Cyclone Progress

It's not going to cost us any more than it already has. IIRC, mods to the ships was included in the MHP contract.

Can you identify this for me?

They don't need to land to kick the SAR Techs out the back via parachute. Then the helo, or other means, comes to pick them up later.

Abbotsford Airshow Sat 11 Aug 2007

All the Sqn call signs are published in the GPH 204, it's unclas. Talon XX for 423 Sqn is not a tactical call sign, it's more of a means for ATC to know who we are without having to say "This is Sea King Can Force 2407" like civvie pilots do. We still get asked from time to time about our type...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

While there may be a surge, pilot production is pretty static. It just means it'll be more competitive. Good luck to those applying, I know I wouldn't have got in if I applied right now.

SPH5 is the current issue helmet for helo crews. That is my understanding, it's CF wide now.

    New Helmet Bag

That is standard issue in Shearwater. I would guess in anticipation of the new helmets coming out, they're a bit bigger than the current ones so the old helmet bags won't fit it.
