What's the Canadian Navy realy like?

Fair enough.  This is my last post and I'll delete my account.

Help from anyone would be great!

My post came across a bit meaner than I intended, but OP isn't talking about changing his mind later (unless I misread).  He's talking about joining something he intends to transfer out of, rather than just do what he wants in the first place.  It doesn't take any experience to know that is a...

What's the dumbest thing you heard said today?

"I had my wallet stollen and ALL of my ID." Queue Stupid part, at the passport office. "Could I see some ID?" I wanted to punch myself in the face.

What's the Canadian Navy realy like?

What I read is this: "I want a free, paid education if it's a free ride." If you want a free ride, get a CAW job. (No offence, I was raised on CAW money)

    Drug Use and the Military

I used to smoke pot fairly frequently when i was young.  Just don't bravo sierra the people at the RC.  IF pot is all you did, and you no longer do said drug, you should be ok.  I did a blood test.  No biggy.  Only a problem if you try to be sneaky.

Seeking information from experienced Combat Engineers and Infantry.

If, for some reason, nobody responds, go to either the local RC or the forces website,  and get a copy of the trade sheet for the MOC you wish to join.  Read said sheet until you can repeat it verbatim.  Don't bullshit the interviewing officer. Good luck!

I want to join. My head is spinning. I need some direction!

Keep in mind that JTF recruits from all MOCs.  Worry about BMQ before JTF.  There's a waiting period before you can join. Your best bet: find an MOC you could do until you retire if you don't make the cut.  Bust your ass and work out.  Apply whenever you can.  Take any courses offerred.  Serve...

    References Superthread [Merged]

The exception to the family rule is if the member is in the forces.  A certain captain aunt of mine has helped a lot.  She married in to the family, so the RC was OK with her as a ref.

    Birth Defect

I seem to recall an MMA fighter from the early 2000s with a similar condition.  Tracy Telligman was his name, I believe.  I'm by no means an expert, but as long as there is no impingement on your overall health, you'd be fine, I'd assume.

Pay to go to CFLRS?/Misc Questions.

Dude, this statement does not compute.  The beverages you just mentioned are what are called "moose piss."  Do yourself a favour and try a beer.  Hoegaarden or Boddington's are good starters.

You are a scholar and a gentleman, sir.

What is THE best smoked meat/pastrami joint in Montreal?  Living that close to gastronomic awsomeness, I need details.  No pork.

    BMQ - St. Jean - March 2011

Nope.  You read it correctly.  Even if you are merit listed for SEP, you could conceivably be offerred a NON-SEP spot.  That's exactly the case with me.  Just make sure you jump on the offer either way; where you go to school doesn't matter as much as how willing you are to learn.

    BMQ - St. Jean - March 2011

Lively, merit listed simply means you are qualified to do a trade.  The only guaranteed job comes after you get an offer.  Trades open in April; it is very likely you will get a call, good or bad, fairly soon. Good luck! Oh I noticed you mentioned SEP.  I was initially merit listed for the SEP...

BMQ changed to 10 weeks ?

Just to clarify, I swore in Feb 17 and was informed by two people at the RC that it's 14 weeks for March 7.

Canadian Forces Aptitude Test (CFAT) [MERGED]

Just my 2c.  Does it make any difference at all what the cut off scores are?  You either do well enough or you don't.  It's not like knowing the required scores will make you any smarter.

    Waiting for BMQ

Just hang tight.  The reason you were told April is because that's the beginning of the fiscal year.  Don't stress and just be ready for that call.  They can't offer you a spot that doesn't exist yet, right? Good luck!

Canadian Forces Aptitude Test (CFAT) [MERGED]

Sigil offers good advice.  There's a waiting period to rewrite the CFAT.  If you get a poor score again, that's bad news.  You're better off holding off a few extra months to study, rather than getting yourself excluded from the forces indefinitely.  Good luck.  Just brush up on English, long...

    BMQ - St. Jean - March 2011

11 days to go, woohoo!  The old-style barracks sound a bit nicer, Rick.  How long have you been in the CF?  I've been warned about the dreaded "gastro" by several people; is it really that much of an issue?

Why cant a storsie get back in

It happens.  Lots of applicants for too few jobs.  Took me over two years of hoop-jumping.
