Role of Officer vs job of NCM [Merged]

At this point, getting into the CF in general is tough.  They're really only taking the best at this point.  Having a degree isn't something only officers have.  I've seen numerous NCM's with bachelors and masters.  If one hasn't graduated high school as a bare minimum, they're going to struggle...

    Application Process Samples [2003 - 2018]

I don't think you can contact NDHQ directly.  Call your CFRC and they'll tell you what they know.

Senate page fired for anti-Harper protest

I'm assuming because those are the only universities local to the Ottawa area.  It wouldn't exactly make sense for a page to go to the University of Toronto and fly up to Ottawa whenever they're needed for page duties.

Joining US Army vs Canadian Army

In my opinion, you could face roadblocks getting in the US Army as well.  Unless you already have a green card, I don't think you can apply.  I would like to think that people join the Canadian Forces to fight for THEIR country.  Sure, the States and Canada are allies, but its not quite the...

    When Should I reapply

I'm trying not to step outside of my lane here, but my question is what have you done to improve your scores from last time?  As far as I know, you only get 3 shots at the CFAT (correct me if I'm wrong).  I was under the impression that they want to see proof of you taking classes or courses in...

Smart phones - Enie Menie Miney Mo

Yeah, one of the key problems with jailbreaking; everytime there is a new update for the OS, you need to redo it.  Jailbreaking is relatively easy, but after a new update comes out you need to wait a few days before someone releases the Jailbreak to it as well.  If you buy the phone unlocked...

Smart phones - Enie Menie Miney Mo

To add to what NFLD said, the iPhones can be unlocked, but it is much harder to do.  Option A: Factory unlock.  Requires purchasing the iPhone at full price from the Apple store. Option B: Jailbreak.  Comes with its own set of unique problems.

Smart phones - Enie Menie Miney Mo

I actually agree with you on the BB bit.  I think the general consensus is that Blackberry's are more work oriented, ie the BBM and email, whereas if you use your phone for more entertainment purposes, the iPhone is the better route. And agreements with the above post.  The Blackberry is more...

Smart phones - Enie Menie Miney Mo

I would stick with the iPhone.  I have owned an iPhone 3GS, a Blackberry 9780, an HTC Legend, and borrowed a friends Optimus Quantum.  I found that the Android and Windows phones were lacking, and the Blackberry makes me want to punch myself in the face.  Keep/upgrade the iPhone.

    BMQ for July 2011

If it makes you feel any better, the entire time I was at CFLRS, the only time I was exposed to second hand smoke was when I consciously chose to be there.  You can stay on your floor all night or you can go down to the BBQ Pit.  No one is forcing you.  I'm a non smoker as well, I didn't find...

    BMQ for July 2011

You do more waiting around than you expect.  Marching NCO: "Platoon.  Meet in the blue break area after lunch.  How does 1230 sound? Good" Course Senior: "Alright guys.  Meet in the blue break area for 1215" 1215 rolls around. Course Senior: "Is everyone here?" Platoon: "Yes Course Senior"...

    BMQ for July 2011

If you're anything like my platoon, you'll start smoking again on course.  No one quit smoking, but those who quit prior too started again, and those who didn't smoke before, started.

    Job offer?

I may be out of my lane, but I was under the impression that when you go to St Jean you fly out the Saturday, and course starts on the Monday. Thats how it was for me anyhow.  For them to fly you out on a Wednesday seems odd.

    Passport?

When I went to BMQ, I brought my passport for the flight from Toronto to Montreal, but even still, it was not necessary for me to have.  Your passport is not mandatory as far as I know, but they're always beneficial as it is a piece of ID should you ever need one.  As for the length of time...

    D5 Classification - Advice

Wait what?  If you released in '05, well over 12 months have elapsed.  Is CFRC telling you that you need to wait until MAR 12 or is the unit themselves?

    D5 Classification - Advice

A 5(d) release is not good.  The detailed explanation of the release is "unadvantageously employable."  I was released under the same article.  I'm not sure what you've been told exactly, but CFRC Det Barrie told me that as of 08 APR 11, a directive was passed down stating that all prior service...

    2 MP Toronto Contact Info?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew the contact information for 2 MP in Toronto at Denison Armoury. A phone number or an email address of a recruiter would be extremely helpful.  I searched the boards already but couldn't find anything. Cheers.

Verification of Former Service (VFS) [Merged]

Thanks for the reply, just for curiosity sake, is the freeze on my file more of a budgetary concern or is a policy thing? What I mean to say is, is there any official rule saying that you must wait x amount of months before being eligible for reenrollment or is it a budgetary thing where CFRC...

Verification of Former Service (VFS) [Merged]

I released out of the CF six months ago due to family issues and I was at my CFRC to reenlist.  It was previously stated that a recruiting freeze would occur for 6 months before being eligible for reenlistment.  CFRC has stated that on 08 APR 11 a directive was sent saying that the freeze has...
