    The Great Gun Control Debate

If this is the wrong spot, feel free to move it. It doesn't help when the media is clueless about gun stuff.  This wasn't a Canadian reporter, but it shows the lack of knowledge.

Entering the CF and YOUR Money....

Generally 4 years time in, excluding trade specific advanced promotions, or skilled entry plans.  But that's not written in stone either.  It's up to your chain of command, and your own motivation/lack of.  Meaning you can be promoted before 4 years if your chain of command thinks you deserve...

    BMOQ travel

You will be doing BMOQ, not BMQ.  BMOQ = Officers, BMQ = NCM's

    Liberalism needs protection

I don't think we, as a Canadian society, would fall down that christian=party hole that is so apparent in the US.  Our politicians up here seem to try to hide their religious denomination, or at least make it not so obvious.  Even the mention of their religious beliefs loses them support from...

I am a CAF member & I want better pay and benefits (a merged thread)

Been following this thread, and I have to comment that it's sad to see how many have the opinion that if you don't like it, get out. Scrap the whole pension - don't like it, get out. Get rid of the health benefits - don't like it, get out. Get rid of the paid vacation.  You will instead receive...

Generally no.  There are some exceptions, but can't think of them off the top of my head.

Your daily 'thing to be afraid of'

Safety system could malfunction.  Safety isn't about what "will" happen, it's about what "could" happen, or has happened because of someone being complacent or a general moron.  It's also why companies tend to hire people for safety that haven't been in the industry.  Everything to them is a...

Your daily 'thing to be afraid of'

That's the new reality of the civilian work force.  I have about 100 cards pre-written about the potential hazard of slips, trips and falls when walking.  There is only so much job safety analysis you can do about walking through farmer's fields for 3 years.

    Credit Check Superthread- Merged Topics

Get a letter from your creditors stating that it is paid/being paid off.  The biggest issue is that the CF doesn't want to be getting daily phone calls for Private Bloggins from XYZ Debt Collection Agency.  It takes time out of their day to get the message passed to you, and takes time out of...

Allowances - Post Living Differential (PLD) [MERGED]

When I was in Edmonton, I wasn't getting PLD (paperwork got lost in the shuffle somewhere between 1VP and 3 VP).  When I was going through my release, it all got sorted out, and I received 8 months "back PLD", along with getting my rations/quarters paid back for the same period. Lesson I...

    2014 Ontario General Election

I've used health services in BC and Alberta, and I have never received a bill for care received.  The more I learn about Ontario......  I was always under the notion it was the greatest place in Canada.  Maybe my ability to understand sarcasm needs some improvement.

BMQ / BMOQ - Personal Electronics during course [MERGED]

When you get your weekends off, one of the last things you want to do is spend even more time with the people you work and live with 24 hours/day.  Use your free weekends for "alone" time. That's my  :2c:.

    Election 2015

Unemployed people on EI should take any FULL TIME job available to them, completely agree. Then make it so that the minimum wage is more than what a person gets collecting EI.  This is accomplished either by raising minimum wage to compete with the maximum EI benefit - back when I collected it...

Adding a 3rd trade choice to your application?

George, they do hire off the street for Intelligence Officers, provided the person meets the requirements to be an officer, under the DEO or ROTP entry plans. As far as I know, Intelligence Operators aren't hired off the street, but the CF recruiting website is kind of vague about that.

    All Things Vegetarian/Vegan (merged)

I think the closest ration to being Vegan is the macaroni and cheese.  Yes it has "cheese", but I remain skeptical as to it being "real cheese".  More along the lines of a processed cheese product like cheese whiz.  Maybe someone can post the contents of it.  Everything else has meat.  There is...

Civilian Police Vs. Military Support - Whats more dangerous?

During my deployment as part of Task Force 3-09, KAF had regular mortar attacks, mostly unsuccessful, but still they were under constant threat.  In our FOB, we never had attacks, of any nature, against us.  In my opinion, being in a support role in KAF was more dangerous than being infantry in...

Bemoaning The Lack of Sports in The CF? [merged thread]

The sports culture will return over time.  We just had a decade where the focus for everyone was training for Afghanistan.  Now that has come to a close, things may return to "normal", until the next big mission comes along.

Long term job satisfaction in the Canadian Forces?

You won't know if you like it until you do it.  Most people probably enlist with the intent of making it a career, but change their minds once they have a few years in.  Daily garrison life killed my desire to make it a career.
