    Indoor Soccer Shoe

The casual dress shoes are to wear the first week before you get issued any kit, past that time, you won't wear them unless you so desire on a weekend.

    Indoor Soccer Shoe

Most of your PT if in St. Jean will be outside on pavement, even in the winter.  You will also not have enough room for all those different pairs of shoes.  Bring one good pair of running shoes for PT, and one other pair of shoes for when you finally get weekends.  You will be issued a useless...

"Conduct After Capture" Training Material "Purged"

The article is somewhat untrue.  Not all military personnel receive this training before going overseas, and it isn't three weeks, unless the total of all phases combined is 3 weeks.  My phase 1 was one day, and I there were no cartoons, but death by power point ruled the presentation.

Serial killer Olson threatens to sue federal government over benefits

I can't find anywhere in the Charter which mentions CPP, or OAS, or anything else regarding retirement benefits.

Serial killer Olson threatens to sue federal government over benefits

If said criminal has a family outside prison, I can understand OAS and pension going to them, but not the convict.

The Shaving Superthread- All You Want and More....

I have known a person that tried Nair...... don't.  There is even a warning on the product not to use it for sensitive areas like the face.  I believe there is a Nair product for facial hair, but I don't know how well it works.

    Pay increments

You used to get field pay from your week 9, 11 and 12, but I don't know if they still do that since LDA came into effect.  That also sounds about right for the amount of a raise one gets moving from Pte(R) to Pte(B), but double check to make sure.

    Military Discounts List

Canadian Tire in Edmonton on 97th by Namao Centre has a soldier appreciation night I believe on the 29th from 6pm-10pm.  Everything discounted except for labour.  I will double check tomorrow to confirm the actual date, and percentage discount.  All you have to do is provide valid military ID.

Hitting the Gym While on Course?

After QL3, yep you can hit the gym every day if you want.  Mornings are often PT as a group, but after work, you can do pretty much whatever you want, bar any taskings, or duties.

    Prepping for BMOQ

Occam, even PSP staff recommend you look a few inches forward.  It makes easier to get the body down a bit lower to ensure each push-up counts.  Nothing is worse than hearing "lower, lower", or the same number repeated because you aren't going down low enough, "9, 9, 9, 10, 11, 11, 12," etc.

    EX-Infantry guys.

Not ex yet, but grade 12, with an associate degree in Business Management (correspondence course) and a 1st year locksmithing apprenticeship (hard to find work unless you have family in business or start your own, learning tricks of the trade as you go). I have been in since 2008.  I still get...

Another "Hey look I can run!"

If you can quit smoking, then go for it.  Even if it takes 7 years for your lungs to fully heal, you will feel the difference within a weeks of being a non-smoker, and it's easier to quit now then it is waiting until your are in the military under constant stress, although the military does...

    Prepping for BMOQ

They will teach you everything you need to know about leadership.  All I can suggest is work more on cardio.  You will be expected to be better than your subordinates (by your subordinates) when posted.  In the infantry at least, every officer I have met is a runner.  Some can't do anything but...

29 Apr 10: CF Wainwright Pers "Arrested For Alleged Drug Trafficking"

What has puzzled me about this, is how they were able to manufacture drugs.  Wouldn't routine inspections kind of take care of that problem?  ???

Info about Backing Up at the Pumps

Seems like an interesting experiment for mythbusters.  I don't think driving into a gas pump would normally ignite the fuel, especially not backing into someone else.  I know the smoking and cell phone use at gas stations has already been disproven as to cause an explosion.

Physical Fitness (Jogging, Diet, Cardiovascular, and Strength )

I'd like to add and hopefully this hasn't been covered yet here.  Keeping up fitness, especially cardio, even while deployed is very important.  There will be a time when you have to start running every day again, like when you get back to garrison life.  You would be surprised how quickly the...
