    New Rucksack

My biggest complaint with it, after using it a bit more is that dreaded waist belt.  The '84 pattern was horrible, but it at least somewhat worked.  The new ruck worked well for an occasion sandbag ruck march up to OP3 in MSG, without the belt.  I tried with 2 sandbags but couldn't lift the ruck...

    Deployed soldier fights phone bill

It is worth inquiring these types of companies to see if they will offer you some sort of deal while deployed, but if they don't have anything like that, don't go whining to the media that corporation x is evil and not supportive.

    Reccomendations for banking

Do they still offer the "military" banking account?  I know CIBC no longer runs CDCB.  I will agree with the others, there is no reason to change banks, and I would actually recommend against going with a credit union.  Since credit unions aren't linked nationally like the other banks, you can't...

6 Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels being no longer Mothballed

I love the shouts of criticism from the opposition parties.  Did they forget the "decade of darkness" already?

What book are you reading now?

A Soldier First. I was reading the Outlander books overseas.  My mom got me hooked on them, but I haven't read the first one, Outlander, ha ha.

Draft Revision of C7/C8 PWT System (2-3-4).

Isn't 600m beyond the effective range of a C-7?  That's one of the reasons why the actual shooting on the PWT 3 doesn't start until the 300m mark.

    Communicator Research

You should get some weekends off in St. Jean after week 4.  How many you get depends on the overall general performance of the course you are on.  The "weekends" questions has been repeatedly asked and a simple search would have answered that one.  It would be about the same in Kingston, or any...

What's the dumbest thing you heard said today?

Would it violate OPSEC?  Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the tree fort, but it was being used as an OP to look into a FOB.

The insurgents have built a tree fort.....

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

If you are employed as a C-9 gunner, look at obtaining your own tacvest, or hope to be one of the lucky few that get a trial model.  The issued vest is wholly inadequate for carrying C-9 ammo.  They are issuing mag pouches that attach to the leg for being able to carry your extra C-7 mags (fits...

    Winter warefare/survival ideas

Beat me to it Recce, as I am pretty sure all aircraft are required to have a survival kit in them.  It may be different with personal aircraft.  Most of us don't fly around in those.  It is a great skill to try to learn, but relying on it to save your life is asinine.  Even the experts have a...

Should the toast to the Queen be omitted from Mess Dinner's

I, _________, do swear (solemnly declare) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, her heirs and successors according to law. SO HELP ME GOD (delete if declaration) Nothing about Canada or country in that oath.

Opinions on the 2010 Opening Ceremonies?

I quite enjoyed the punk fiddler, Ashley McIssac (sp?).  I think it was supposed to represent the Maritimes.  They should have included some seal clubbing though.

Sound off: What are you doing right now? Aside from the obvious being on here..

Reading the comments about John Babcock on CBC.ca.  I keep asking myself why do I bother with cbc.

    Cadets or Reserves?

For the most part I agree, but learning section attacks in BMQ, and BIQ, there were vast differences.  The one thing that was constant ws fire and move, but they didnt get into flanking, aussie peelbacks, weapon dets, etc  in BMQ.  I don't know if trades other than infantry go into much detail...

    Cadets or Reserves?

Leadership potential is also a part of the PDR, even for no-hook privates.  I was the RSM of my cadet unit at the rank of WO after 4 years.  I have been in the reserves, and I had also applied for RMC about 15 years ago.  Now I am in the Regs as an NCM.  You really want to know what they look...

    Green Trades

I thought this would be a good place to put this query, since those looking to OT might want to know what trades they may have a good chance at getting into, or which ones they probably won't be able to leave.  I have done a search, and wasn't able to find what I was looking for (still working...
