Just a few days left, you guys all ready?  I'm about to take the buzzer to my head.  8)

    So I'm on my way

Thanks!  I'm both nervous and excited for the next step.  I'm really looking forward to the whole lifestyle change; basically everything: nutrition, exercise, time management, etc.  I know these are things I could do on my own, but this way I'll have people pushing me to make sure I do it.  I...

Oh well, I'm not complaining.  I've never been on a plane before and think perhaps my nerves might get to me considering all that would be happening in those few days. Also, the train tickets are first class and the price on the receipt says $282.  :nana:

Looks like I'm the odd man out; they're sending the 4 people from our detachment to Montreal by train.

    So I'm on my way

The ceremony was a lot simple than I really expected.  It was short and sweet and most of the time was spent filling out forms. So, today, I'm officially a Federal employee, but more importantly, an Ordinary Seaman. :salute:

Personally, I would advise against wearing jeans.  If I recall correctly, you'll be meeting your drill sergeant when you land (unless that has changed) and you should probably dress accordingly.  All the documents I've read say to dress casually and comfortably, but I think the line would be...

I guess I'll see you guys around.  I'll probably be wearing a brown leather jacket and some khakis.  Not quite sure on policy, so do I shave before going, or when I get there?  If I can shave when I get there, look for the guy with the chin strap.  8)

    So I'm on my way

I'm not great speaking in front of too many people.  During the ceremony, do we all swear in at the same time, or is it one at a time?

    So I'm on my way

Thanks! I swear in tomorrow, bright and early.  Should be an interesting day; I'm nervous as hell.

You guys already got your travel information?  I don't know how I'm getting there; a question I'll ask tomorrow before/after swearing in, I suppose. ;)

Then search I shall. =]  I made a quick pass through Google, but for some reason didn't even think to use the search on the forums...woops.

    General Questions

New question: I swear in on the 28th...less than 48 hours from now.  It's still so surreal and I imagine it will be until the first week of training. Basically my question is mostly simple: Would other people be swearing in at the same time/place?  As in...will it be a group of people doing it...

Some great replies here!  All of this certainly puts me at ease.  I'm trying to make my first two days as easy to get used to as possible.

    General Questions

I've read several topics in these forums and they've been an incredible help.  However, I have some questions that I haven't found clear answers, and some questions I've probably forgotten the answers to.  Rather than ask them all in existing threads, I figure it'd be best to just compound them...

Thanks for the words!  Knowing it'll be available to me is great news, even if I only get to use it once in a while.  Plus, I can get it anywhere on my weekend leave (when it's available).

Well, I got the call this morning.  I swear in on the 28th and start training on the 10th.  I'll be leaving from London.

    So I'm on my way

And now the big parts begin; the time when things get surreal. I got the call this morning from the Government of Canada.  The official job offer.  I've agreed to take the Comm Rsch position with the Navy.  I've been told that the difference between the trade in the Navy/Army/Air Force is so...

    Haircuts

I've heard shaving mentioned in this thread, which opens up a slot for my question: My facial hair grows fast and it grows quick.  And as such, for the first few weeks I might have some difficulty.  Also, I'm a bit of a bleeder.  If I cut myself (which I surely will since I'll be in a hurry)...

I stumbled upon this thread and figure my question would fit here, and didn't really warrant its own thread.  So, basically, here it goes: I chew tobacco.  I realize this isn't an unusual thing for people in the military to do, so this is probably a stupid question: Would chewing tobacco (or...
