City of Toronto’s HUSAR team deployed to Elliot Lake

Agreed. I wonder if the Premier in his direction to EMO was able to waive certain liability's to allow the search to continue. I think he must have offered certain assurances in that regard.

City of Toronto’s HUSAR team deployed to Elliot Lake

I agree Bruce the phrase "dead heroes can't save lives" is one of the first things we learned in Paramedic school. That being said I have certainly put myself in situations where I could be injured or worse to be able to care for another. My choice but I certainly heard about it later from my...

City of Toronto’s HUSAR team deployed to Elliot Lake

I assumed so as well CDN Aviator but I was not certain. I would think the Military would have additional tools and expertise.  The Toronto HUSAR team is well trained but I know of other teams in the U.S.A. with further experience and equipment. I just hope all the resources that should be there...

What specific resources and personnel can the Military offer to a situation like this?

    FWSAR (CC130H, Buffalo, C27J, V22): Status & Possibilities

I have to agree with KJ_Gully. Totally depending on civillian SAR would be a nightmare. OHS regulations, WSIB claims and public service unions would make it a nightmare for those trying to get the job done. Training and standards I think would slip, you just woulden't be able to maintain the...

    FWSAR (CC130H, Buffalo, C27J, V22): Status & Possibilities

Ok, not to de-rail the thread even more but the examples I was thinking about were an injured hiker about 30 min into the forest, Ski-doo accident deep into the woods and an overturned boat in Lake Ontario in April with people in the water. The Police chopper flew cover and Police grabbed a boat...

    FWSAR (CC130H, Buffalo, C27J, V22): Status & Possibilities

Interesting discussion. I work as an Advanced Care Paramedic in Ontario. I often call ORNGE for either an on scene response or a quick meet up at a helipad for a medevac. I really appreciate what SAR-Techs do and have on ocasion over the last 14 years had what I thought was a need for a SAR-Tech...

    Hurricane Irene

It's very windy here now. No rain yet but I'm looking at a monster storm out over the ocean as we speak. The waves are incredible. Precautions here are just to bring in loose items, clear some trees etc. They did however take off all the gondolas from the new skywheel in downtown Myrtle Beach...

    Hurricane Irene

Im on a 2 week Daddy/Daughter roadtrip to the USA. We were in Annapolis Maryland during the earthquake and we are now oceanfront in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Boy do I know how to plan a vacation  ::) We expect tropical storm force winds here and will be staying. I fear for those furthur...

Combat Hospital (ABC and Global) Premiere June 21st

I just went back and watched the first episode online.  At the begining, just as the C 17 is landing at "Kandahar" airfield is that not 2 U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds sitting on the Tarmac?, Right hand of screen..... ::)

    Medical Technician Question

The "Paramedic degree" from U of T is the 2 year diploma plus 2 years of Life Sciences courses. The degree from UOIT is an applied degree with mostly management courses. It doesn't change anything in regards to clinical practice nor IMHO does it give you an edge to get into management. With the...

Poor muffin and Spec pay to boot.

It could very well be the age and generation. We have staff who are younger and for some reason think they should not work weekends, overtime, actually work as least as possible but still make 100 K a year and not have to learn anything.

Poor muffin and Spec pay to boot.

Wow....I'm not in the Military but certainly we have staff who start there shifts at 0530. Go for 12 hours and we all have to work out on our own time to stay fit. I wish working out was part of my scheduled day, meals were cooked for me in a mess and could have the odd weekend off.

"Man killed in fire truck collision"

At least Toronto dispatches somewhat according to the nature of the Emergency. Other GTA EMS services dispatch almost everything as an Emergency requiring lights and sirens. This puts many EMS vehicles (First Response  SUV and Ambulance) plus Fire on the road rolling "Hot" for calls that do...

    Medical Equipment

Ive used the Asherman chest seal on shooting's, stabbings and post chest needle. It's is not a great piece of kit in practical use. On a Mannequin...sure, but not on the street in my experience.
