I have worked in both Ontario and Nova Scotia as a civi Paramedic. I don't know of anywhere that there are Nurses in the field outside of the hospital working alongside Paramedics in a 911 Response setting or Educating Paramedics in the field. Even Air Ambulance in these two Provinces...

There are also many Reservists who have obligations in there Civillian jobs that also may require them to act in a domestic Emergency in there Civillian jobs......I.E. Police,EMS, Hydro workers, the list could be long.

BC is a great place to work as a medic right now and so is Nova Scotia. You can get in on a great opportunity right now in NB as they just went Provincial and are hiring PCP's. Ottawa is great! and with a bit of OT your looking at a six figure income potentially............

Mac's info sounds about right. I wish I could make the move as well but after paying for college twice and living on $40.00 an hour (more than alot of RN's) here as a Paramedic it's a hard switch to make. I would definately take a pay cut to join the CF but Cpl was about it dollar wise for me...

I think you will find it's different everywhere. Ive worked alongside them here in Ontario and it varies. ETF Emergency Task Force. (Toronto Police), TSU Tactical support unit for some others.

I saw that original episode as well and I think how they play that characters history is he had taken a LOA from the Toronto Police Service having had some experience then went to the CF and JTF then came back to Police..... Jeez and I was bugging my girlfriend the other day about her soaps.... ::)

I wasnt aware of a recruiting allowance, actually I was told that there wasnt one. My PLAR came back with some nice write off's towards Med-Tech. PCP, Prov cert. etc but no rank or wage incentive. Med-Tech is definately the route I want to pursue but Im looking at a 60k pay cut to go to Privates...
