"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

Bzz, No worries, I agree that BEW is extrememly important. Me and all the guys in my section and platoon wear eyewear day and night. That being said, Westie is right, I do not wear the issue ballistic eyewear. IMHO the issued ballistic glasses are junk. The are designed poorly, so when folded...

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

It depends on which FOB you are at, who the CSM is, and a big one, who is at the FOB at the time. At MSG things were pretty gay because the CSM has a hard on for issued kit. We didnt belong to him so our WO smoothed things over a bit. At SG things are pretty good because the CSM there kind of...

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

BigRudy, In reference to the Arktis trial vests, I am not sure if they are the same ones that were purchased for you but the BG has been issued the rflmn and C9 arktis rigs to trial. These rigs, in addition the RCMP TV, and the DHTC vests are what comprise the trial that is being run currently...

TCCC Shoulder Bag aka The Med Murse

Sorry I cant get anymore pictures right now with my kit as my baggage is turned in already. I will get some more pictures of it all when I am in theater.

Gear Review - Arktis Windshirt, Eagle Admin Pouch, DZ C9 stuff daddy

qjdb - I am not bashing CIC's in general. You will notice that I did not have anything negative to say about the review itself. I agree completely, with caveats to prevent people from thinking you are something that you are not (i.e. anyone passing themselves off as HSLD Super Ninja's etc)...

Gear Review - Arktis Windshirt, Eagle Admin Pouch, DZ C9 stuff daddy

Along with any unit operating in the mountains, those with a mountain tasking, those on BMO/AMO, teaching on BMO/AMO, those on adventure training and other unit run trips etc. I agree cadets have there place but the problem with "all of the input" that there is on kit is that a lot of the time...

Infantry.....what Do You like About it? And what is your weapon of choice?

Cadets most likely. I like some aspects of the C7A2 (collapsible butt stock) but others are junk. The ambidextrous magazine release is nothing but problems for right handed people. Every time you sling your rifle behind you to do a task (search someone, administer first aid, carry something etc)...

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

Its hard to forget your issue tac vest, as you now get issued an AR tac vest when you go through mirage  >:D Seriously though, it is ridiculous to not bring your issue kit when the ability to wear non issue stuff is always "hanging in the balance". I sent my TW tac vest in my UAB, I am bringing...

TCCC Shoulder Bag aka The Med Murse

I have a carbine and occasionally a pistol as well. I wear the bag directly behind me, sitting basically in the small of my back. You barely notice that it is there, and it does not interfere with either weapon. Again, slinging it forward is extremely easy and quick.

TCCC Shoulder Bag aka The Med Murse

St Michaels -  It does have a waist belt, you can see the tri glide buckle on the side where it attaches in one of the pics. I didnt mention it in the review because I found that I never used it. Like I said my rig holds it in place quite well, and the waist belt just slowed me down when I was...

TCCC Shoulder Bag aka The Med Murse

As the title says this is a review of my new TCCC/CLS shoulder bag, or as I have dubbed it "The Med Murse". When I found out that I would be one of the TCCC's for my section I spend a lot of time humming and hawing about how to carry my medical supplies. I kicked around a bunch of options...

Skydex Helmet Pad Kit - LOTS of pictures

When I was there on 1-06 there was no skydex or similar system available. American issue helmets already come with a pad system and as such there is little need for the PX to sell pads.

    CF Service Medals

I think that this is somewhat of a ridiculous argument. The award has already been approved. It is just a matter of time before it is implemented. All those the are arrogant, even now, not having a badge will to continue to be arrogant. All those that are jealous at not having been in combat...

    CF Service Medals

You are mistaken. The concept for the CAB is a combat badge. It is not specialized for infantry, or any other combat arms trade. If you are involved in combat (whatever the definition of combat turns out to be) then you would get the badge, regardless of trade.

    CF Service Medals

Vern, I think that this is an extremely good post. I do not like to hear the denigration of others service that some guys who have come back from Afghanistan do. Every tour is different, none is "better" than the other. That being said I think the above quoted post is a prime argument for the...

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

Solving the problem, by buying our own vest, so his comment that we are not properly equipped for the mission, and our load bearing equipment is more suited for peacekeeping, is IMHO, completely valid. Now whether or not this person should have been making statements to the press is another...

    ear protection

I really like them. I used them on the BTE like Piper is saying, basically in all the time. I can hear people talking, even in the back of the LAV no problem but they do a good job of blocking loud shooting noises. They are secure and comfortable, in fact I forgot I had them in most of the time...

    ear protection

It really depends on the guy and the organization. As far as I know there is no theater policy about ear pro, I could very easily be wrong though. I know some guys use electronic muffs like peltors. I personally use surefire ep3 plugs.

Thoughts on deployment/rotation length & HLTA

I think what he is saying is that a reservist can apply to on any tour provided that there are CFTPO posn's tasked down to their unit. i.e. I went on TF 1-06 with a 1 PPCLI battle group. When I got home I applied and got accepted to go on TF 1-08 with a 2 PPCLI battle group. When I get home from...

Troops carrying pistols outside the gate

The problem is the allocation of pistols. When I was there there were a lot of pistols floating around but every "office worker" and officer had one, regardless of their job. I think a pistol going to a guy outside the wire that might use it is much more important than to a clerk that can just...
