    2026 US-Denmark Tensions/End of NATO

Deep thought.....is that what Trump's end-game actually is? Getting Europe to take responsibility for Europe? Convincing them to put 10K troops on the ground to 'deter' the US would actually act as a deterrent to anyone else, and would start making Europe pay their own way in terms of...

    Funny Pix & Video Thread

I head to bed after the wife does, so I usually pop on an episode of MASH then when that's over, switch to the fireplace channel at low volume for 'ambiance' for the night. At some point it switches over from a fireplace to waterfront/waves, and I imagine that as I get older, the 'running...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Yamato turret armour - shot with a 16" projectile. It's 26 inches of hardened (Face hardened I think?) Steel. Theoretically, a modern RPG-7 Tandem Charge warhead could penetrate this. Javelin (open source) says it could penetrate as well. AT-4 could not, nor can the M-72.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

There was nothing between me and the ships on this fine morning when I had my 18ft Jet Boat out in the Harbour with a buddy of mine....we got some great photos.

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

While the Iowa class is impressive (I've visited a couple of them now) and the North Carolina is similarly impressive, and the Texas was neat, none of them would be truly practical to re-activate and put back in service. Especially when they'd literally have to build the industry that...

    PLD/Sea Duty Allowance

I just got notice on Friday that my SDA Audit has been completed and that I'm owed money from 2 deployments - 2005 and 2011. Plus incremental increase in SDA. For awareness, I'm no longer RegF Navy, I've transferred to the PRes Army and they finally got ahold of me through my OR. NS

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

Actually, there is an argument that the PPC actually DID have an effect on a number of ridings where the vote split let the Libs take a seat....I'll dig up a ref for that. Edit to add - it's not as simple as the split...but...

    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

Hull #2 is progressing apace now....the first layer of gloss blue over the primer showed some flaws, so....more putty and sanding....and I'll see how she looks on Monday.

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

I'm not one of those 'cold dead hands' guys....at least not on the internet where my search and post history is publicly available.... ;-)

    Continental Defence Corvette

When I worked with Route Survey, we were able to conduct MCM operations using the old 30-ish foot harbour defense jet boats that we had in Halifax. The boat was able to be fitted to tow a Klein 5000 series tow-fish, setup the operator displays in the cabin, and we'd have had enough space to put...

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

When the time comes for my guns to get picked up, they'll have to come and get them with a fork-lift and truck. They will be embedded in a concrete filled tri-wall mixed in with rebar/junk/etc. There will be a PVC tube heat welded to each receiver showing the S/N, but the rest of the receiver...

Support for the Canadian military is a mile wide, and an inch deep, particularly on Remembrance day.

Which is exactly why, many many years ago, Canada bought into the 5th Gen program that resulted in the F-35.

And, hull #1 was delivered yesterday to a rather pleased CO. Hull #2 is now in the building slips, with putty, primer, putty, and more primer.

    2025 U.S. - Venezuela conflict

I think the photo I posted of the Little Bird is actually from the USCG ship - based on the while guard rails.

    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

I think that'll do....I'll end up printing the detail bits separately to add, but I think that's a good foundation for it. The 3D panels are slightly too big, but I think that's OK. I'm not a rivet counter, and this is still just a 'concept' of the RCD.

    2025 U.S. - Venezuela conflict

Supposedly a photo from the Bella-1 this morning...looks a bit like a 'little bird' - so credence to the concept of US SOFCOM folks going to the UK to help with her arrest.
