Active Shooter / Hostile Event ( ASHE ) prevention / response

I haven't been following it that closely but wondering if the responding members had rifles. I recall that was an issue in both NS and Moncton. Deployment approved but roll-out was lacking.

    Continental Defence Corvette

I'm often curious about what happens when a high-functioning, fully autonomous warship needs tech support? Does it have a 'limp home' mode like my truck?

    Trump administration 2024-2028

As opposed to the current level of interventionism like Venezuela, plus the sabre rattling at Iran, Canada, Mexico, Greenland, et al? It seems a lot of elected Republicans (and Republican voters - who knows) seem to be okay with their boss trying to mould the world to his vision.

    Replacing the Subs

It seems some still do - and that's good. One of the guys I worked with retired as a senior, major criminal investigator and was a part-time prof at another college. He wrote two texts books, but couldn't get a full time gig because he didn't have a degree.

    Trump administration 2024-2028

So being aggressive/not nice is a national security issue it seems, since that is his basis for tossing tariffs around like confetti. Clearly, insecurity is at play, but it's not the nation's.

Active Shooter / Hostile Event ( ASHE ) prevention / response

I listened to the press conference by the OC E Division. I thought he handled it well. It seems many of the injured were comparatively minor and not gun shot wounds but a variety of injuries as a result of the panic. Apparently the police had been involved with the shooter for several years...

    The Arctic

WWI halted construction around present day Gillam, and national restructuring of all railways except CP because of their collective insolvency delayed further construction until 1925. Sometime in the intervening years, probably a result of better surveying, they came to the realization that the...

All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

But provincial parties could whip their senators. Admittedly it might not be as big a deal. Agree. Agreeing on the candidate would be the second hurdle. The first would be coming up with the list. Any change to the Senate, even if widely approved by a referendum, would still have to go...

    Police Folk Allegedly Behaving Badly

I took a very quick look at the Community Safety and Policing Act. It appears that the IG has some direct authority in relation to non-compliance with their direction after an inspection, up to removing a chief of police (they can only recommend the removal of the OPP Commissioner since it is a...

    Replacing the Subs

Agree, but many (certainly not all) of the same industries are the one who won't support apprenticeships and want every hire to come with experience. So long as academics are driving the bus I don't expect much change in the public education system. Having a teacher who has taken a course is...

    The Arctic

HBC might have operated York Factory (near the mouth of the Hayes River) until 1957 but steel was never laid to Port Nelson (near the mouth of the Nelson river, 18 Euclidian km north). Port Nelson never operated.

    Replacing the Subs

That was the same with me back when the earth was still cooling. I was 5 year ST&T and we were intended for university. I took electrical/electronics and architectural and machine drafting. The shops I really wanted, welding, auto and woodworking, were not open to us. Our 'shop' teachers...

    The Arctic

It probably means that the permafrost line is moving north. A lot of permafrost ground is already technically muskeg - just frozen. The creation of muskeg/bog/peatland takes centuries.

It probably doesn't help that the Governor of Michigan is an evil Democrat.

    Police Folk Allegedly Behaving Badly

This will be the first big test of the new role of Inspector General. Depending on what third party he picks to conduct the probe, it can result is something workable - or not.

    Prehospital Chemical Restraint

I'm not sure. Issued equipment had largely been unchanged for years but a spate of police KOD in the 1980s spurred significant changes in equipment and training. We basically went from a revolver in a cross-drawn closed holster to open holster to semi-auto within a decade. The sap was...

We were issued them until around the early 1980s. I still have mine.

    2026 Winter Olympics

US downhill skier Lindsay Vonn lifted off the course by helicopter. Forty-one, off the circuit for six years, partial tin knee, helicoptered off a few weeks ago during trials. I would take a hint...
