Do you mean basic aptitude requirements or space availability?
Both trades need people.
The majority of the two trades are not in Cold Lake, but it seems that many of the new bodies are being posted up that way. Cold Lake always seems to need people.
Where did you see the AVS guys in action? That trade can have quite a bit of variety depending on fleet and position.
Have you looked at ATIS?
If you're into computers then you might not be happiest in the AVN trade.
You're absolutely right. As it's been mentioned, most of our mistakes are already covered somewhere in writing. More and more responsibility on fewer people with less experience will result in these occurences.
We have a system of independant checks in place, more paperwork isn't the...
I'll second SKT's position, I don't see many technical charges on this fleet; I can only assume the reasoning is similar to what he outlined for the Sea King techs. That and perhaps our lost experience extends to preparing tech charges from higher up the chain. I've seen one instance where...
It happens... most of the mistakes techs make would have been prevented by reading the pubs. Not to say it's ok, but it happens. You'll see quals pulled in particularly severe cases.
Cat,
Working a job you dislike and spending time in a trade you dislike in a place you dislike with a contract obligation to fulfill are very different beasts.
CDN Aviator isn't providing his opinions, he's relaying his experience, also very different.
That being said you do sound very...
You've got the right attitude in any event. I've only spent a few weeks there on TD; lots to do if you're into the outdoors, and lots of friendly people.
I've worked with a number of techs in Greenwood and here in Comox who left Cold Lake kicking, screaming, and dying to go back. With your...
As stated, I think Tac Hel owns it. They ask for volunteers now and again, at least one guy from Greenwood went that route. I believe the criteria was to be a Cpl and have your 'A' levels on whatever type you were employed on. It's something you can make your chain aware of if that's where...
As of right now, unless you're with the UAV's or transport group, I don't think you'd have much luck getting to Afghanistan with a 500 series trade. I'm not sure how often guys are up in Alert.
People are getting qualified on the 140 fleet much more quickly in the AVN trade than in the past. ...
Klinkaroo,
It's tough to say where they'll post folks at any given minute. I'm sure a willingness to go and a bilingual profile would certainly help your chances of getting Bagotville. It's always tough to predict what the career shop is going to do, for me anyways.
I can only speak for...
I worked the door at JR's for 2 years, they were in the process of changing it to Club Static when I left a couple of years ago for Legends. I don't ever recall the bar taking off under the new name/ownership.
In all honesty, it was pretty much 50/50 with regards to who started with who on...
The engines and props on the Aurora are definitely happier when they're spinning and burning. Who knows with AVS gear, that stuff is all magic, smoke, and mirrors anyhow. ???
I know there was a gliding club in Greenwood. I used to see flyers posted in 11 Hgr. The contact name was an AERE officer, I'm not sure if any pilots were members. The Greenwood Flying club actually operates out of the Waterville airport, it's just a few minutes up the road, not too sure...
I have worked with more than a few techs, AVN and AVS in the last 8 years who had taken FRP or moved on to the civilian sector and opted to return to the CF. You would probably be surprised at the numbers that this type of initiative can attract.
As the older 500 series techs leave...
I can't give you much info regarding walking on to civvie street, it seems that everybody who makes the jump has a different experience. The guys who settle for mediocre coin with civvie employers are usually content to remain where they are (geographically)and use their pension to top up...
I work with an AVN tech with feet a few sizes apart. One of his feet just didn't form properly in the womb. I'm not sure if he had to go to any special lengths while enrolling, but he just wears 2 different sized boots and I never noticed until he mentioned it to me.
Good luck.
That makes sense, we don't have the AVN/AVS cross-training situation you folks have.
Thanks for the offer with the FE's name, but that's ok.... I was just interested to see the circumstances that were involved with your situation.
Good luck if you go through with the FE application.
I'd not heard that piece of info before. That will be good news for a few AVS types.
What fleet are you on FraggleTech? We had an AVS tech look into the FE route last year, but he never made any progress. His background is strictly AVS, he didn't go blue until after the amalgamation.
Are you both talking about the same thing?
I think the original question was for 'Aircrew Selection'.... it sounds like you're talking about 'Aircraft Structures Tech' Sparkplugs.
If I'm out to lunch then just ignore me.
