Any thoughts on Sen. Hawley's allegations that a number of the USSS agents protecting Trump were not actual USSS agents? (As fascinating as the off topic stuff about police kit is....)
The USSS mandate would be to protect the lives of US political leaders, including the President and former Presidents by providing them with appropriate security at public events.
Trump is a former US President.
Whether they provided him with appropriate security is subject to a current...
Obviously I am not on the inside track and so I cannot speculate about the specific intelligence informed threat assessment.
What I find extraordinary is how Trump could possibly be deemed by the USSS to be of low risk of an assassination attempt - which is what Hawley is alleging.
Yep, understood. And those are two very distinct aspects of this.
What I find interesting is the confluence of a (presumably) opportunist shooter and the 'hole in the fence' he was able to exploit due to what may turn out to have been severe negligence on the USSS part.
Fairly explosive revelations - if they are subsequently verified - from Senator Josh Hawley just now.
He says he has whistleblowers coming to him saying that the USSS were not provoding anything like appropriate protection, having deemed the event a "loose security event" and that the SS detail...
I haven't suggested there was any sort of a conspiracy - I've just observed, as much of the rest of the world has, that there appears to have been an extraordinary confluence of failures. I'm also questioning how this could have happened.
You don't think people should ask questions?
Perhaps...
I'm basing it on having a healthy cynicism and an open mind to everything being a possibility, and on the observable facts available to everyone.
I think it's healthy to ask questions.
Well, it is increasingly looking like an extraordinary concatenation of a considerable number of people missing out on doing a remarkable number of rather large things.
So 'some people did some things' isn't quite going to cut it in this case.
Reports vary, but I think it may have been one bathroom break and the other falling asleep. May have been a security camera outage also, I'm not sure.
Either way, this is approaching that level of credibility.
Not sure if this is true - but there are TV reports that the US SS Director has said...
You think they decided to take a lunch break ........ during Trump's speech??
If so, it makes the notion that they "did their job" rather a hard one to defend, doesn't it.
Mighty fortuitous for the shooter, in that case... and darned handy that they left the ladder in position.
What are the odds?
Hi all, trying to get some information on Armour Officer training - how many modules (total), length, location, and some general idea of the content of each.
Any information on any of that would be very useful.
Thanks all!
Well, I think your 3) CS did their job will be determined by an investigation. Neither you, I nor Brihard determine that.
And, since a shooter did in fact manage to get a clear head shot at the former President while laying on top of a roof 150 yards away it is somewhat hard to argue that they...
An open carry state, yes - but I think there is a question that needs to be asked as to how exactly the Secret Service detail somehow failed to spot a man climbing up a ladder, carrying a rifle, onto a roof with a clear eyeline to the speaker podium, at an estimated distance of 150 yards from...
Being a registered Republican doesn't mean anything in this context. It isn't difficult to register and - if an individual was planning something like this they might well take that step to facilitate access to a rally or whatever.

Honestly I think teachers and professors should keep their politics out of their classes - would help society a lot.
